My niece is using the Saxon Math book. Can anyone confirm/deny for me that what she's calling "Mixed fractions" is actually "improper fractions"? I ask for several reasons. One is that her teacher won't allow her to take the book home, so my sister isn't able to directly help. Two, the teacher doesn't show them HOW to do it, just tells them TO do it. I've ordered the text for them, but it'll be at least a week before it arrives. In the mean time I want to be sure I'm helping her out. The text example my niece gives me is of a ruler. An arrow is pointing to what I would call 3 1/2. That answer (I'm told) is wrong. My next response would be 7/2. That one she'll ask her teacher about.
Any help?
