I am sure many of you from Ohio and Pittsburgh already shop at the grocery store Giant Eagle and utilize their fuel perks for free gas. Giant Eagle had an unadvertised bonus last Friday, one day only, 25 cents of each gallon of gallon for every $50 in gift cards purchased, Disney and Universal included. We actually went to get our gift cards on Thursday for the regular 10 cents off per gallon and luckily we saw the sign for Friday.....
We did go back Friday and bought enough gift cards for the entire Disney and Universal trip for the entire family for 15 nights...
We scored 23 free (30 gallon) fill ups. (we fill up two cars at a time with gas cans, its very common in Pittsburgh.) We use a lot of fuel, 2 cars for me hubby, my sister has 3 cars and Mom and Dad have one car.. DH and I travel back and forth to NY a lot so we use it up easily..................
We also got the 20 cent bonus fuel perks for the Southwest flights a few months ago...for the few flights we did pay for, they ended up $74 each way non stop when the free gas was figured in and we managed 4 free flights by signing up for the Southwest Rapid Reward Visa, we do this every 2 years and get 50,000 points every 2 years. We close the credit card after the points are received...this is the 4 time doing it and our credit stays very good, doesn't affect it. Plus we got Free dining and upgraded to the Deluxe Dining for 15 nights...14 nights Free dining, one night without............................. Takes some work and patience but its a heck of a savings.... With the new rules for DxDP, we are able to feed 10 of us by sharing the credits with family staying at Windsor Hills in a 3 bedroom 3 bath condo for $1100 for 16 days! We shared our DxDP credits last year without one issue at any restaurant...... and the condo is WAY cheaper to book than an additional room at Disney......
Any questions, let me know.

I did the same. I paid my trip off last time they did double fuel perks, and just went back on Friday and got $1500 more to cover meals. My DH has a 32 gallon truck, so that was at last 3 free tanks, which I figured to be close to $200 in gas, which I will turn around and put gas money right back towards the trip. We figured we saved almost $400 in gas on paying the trip off back in May. Not to mention, both times I used my Disney premier visa and got 2% in Disney rewards on all of that since it's a grocery store!!!

Yes I do this for every trip and Costco visa is 4 percent fuel so if u get the cards there and load them to your disney vacation account at 2 percent it is like an additional 6 percent . Savings last Friday was like 15 percent so add 6 and it is 2- percent savings per gift card. Be careful bc those perks will expire end of September whatever on your card now

I got an e-mail from Giant Eagle about the one-day bonus, however I was on the west coast.

I have the AmEx that gives 6% on groceries up to $6000 a year which adds up too. It's just DH and me, so we don't spend all that much on groceries and can get 6% back on gift cards at Giant Eagle.

I had closed my latest SW card and applied for another, however I was denied because they said I had too many new credit cards in the last 2 years. Chase is definitely tightening up on those of us who open cards for rewards. I got 80,000 American Airlines miles and 80,000 Marriott rewards points this year for opening cards, but will have to wait a little longer for the next SW bonus I guess.

Great deal! The fuel perks are hard for us to use up before they expire. I drive a Prius (and it only has a 10 gallon tank). DH drives a gas guzzling SUV, but only puts about 30 miles a week on it since we live so close to his work place.

I'm trying to figure out my best bet to pay off the $2,000 I owe on my next trip. I could use my Target Red Card for the 5% back. Or Sam's Club has $150 of Disney cards for $142.98, which is about 4.7% back...plus I think I'll still get 1% back on my Sam's mastercard.

The SAMs Club near me just outside of Pgh has $500 Disney gift cards for $474.xx.

I am also a Pittsburgher. (Ross Township representing). I am planning on using Giant Eagle for Disney and Southwest gift cards and am always hoping to hear of the unannounced 20¢ Fuelperk savings!!

My plan is to buy them in increments which will yield a free tank, also lumping in other gift cards I tend to buy there (for example, for Christmas shopping, I like to get a bunch of retail gift cards). Speaking of which, there is often a double Fuelperk event around Thanksgiving. I'm not traveling until June, so there should be ample time to do this (plus I won't have to dump all the cash at once).

We bought enough for our deposit plus a little more the last time it was 20 cents. But I need more to pay our balance! Good to know about Sams just in case there's not another offer at Giant Eagle.
