Saving tickets form a package for later

We're doing 4 nights for free dining and had to buy the 4 day hoppers. We fly in late on day one and out early on day 4 so there's no way we can use all 4 days, plus it's labor day weekend and it's going to be so hot, I'd rather be at the water parks. So we are going to buy 1 day plus tickets and do 1 park day and then water parks. I know we can save our tickets for another (cooler, longer) trip by creating a dummy account and moving them but exactly how do I do that? Step by step. And will they expire? And will they have to be used by the person who was originally on the ticket?

I have never heard of creating a "dummy" account and thought all tickets expired in 14-days from first use. They do not offer non-expiration date tickets anymore. Here is what the website says....

Multi-day tickets are valid for one theme park per day for each day of the ticket. The first use must be on or before December 31, 2019.

Multi-day tickets and any options purchased must be used within 14 days of first use,

I don't know if you can move the package tickets to another profile until you check in (but I could be wrong). Just so I understand you want to save the 4 day hoppers for another trip and buy single day tickets to use on this trip?

You can save them for another trip but I believe they expire 1 year after the package. What I do is go to Disney Springs CS. I have my tickets removed from my MB.
If you do this you can then buy the ticket you like and they can link it to your MB.
I do this every year!

If you create new family members in your MDE account, one for each person on your reservation (use middle name or something like that) you can link the new tickets to those and use them. However, I am not sure how the magic bands would work. I think when your magic bands are issued they would be linked to the person that the tickets are linked to and I don't beleive you can reassign those. In that case you wouldn't be able to use your magic bands to get into the park or for FastPass because it would be linked to the 4 day park hopper.

Hopefully someone with actual experience will chime in.

Tickets and MBs are completely separate and distinct things.
Neither “interact” nor are they directly connected with each other.

A MB does not have any tickets (or anything else) “put onto” it.
Tickets are only linked to guest profiles and do not require a MB for use.

MBs, once assigned to a specific guest, cannot be transferred to any other guest.

But... an unused ticket CAN be transferred from/to any individual guest who is in or connected to any other guest’s MDX profile.

MBs are only used to “access” any tickets (etc.) that are in a guest’s MDX profile.

But MagicBands can't me reassigned correct? I knew tickets could, so this case they would transfer the 4 day park hopper tickets to the dummy person and then link the new ticket to the original person. I was thinking of it backwards at first and linking the new tickets to the dummy person, but they should reassign first and then link.

Ok don’t see the difference between “linking” and “reassigning.”
And, again, this (tickets) has no relation at all to Magic Bands.

Once a ticket is in any guest’s MDX, (as long as it has not yet been used to enter a park gate) it can be freely transferred to any other guest, real or “made up name.”
The made up person does not need to be listed as being in any resort room, so no MB would be sent to the made up guest name.

Maybe we could say (for clarity) that a MB, once it is assigned to (issued to) a guest then “belongs” to that guest.
It can’t be transferred to anyone else.

A new (unused) ticket can be “temporarily linked” to any guest.
Only after it has been USED at a park gate does it THEN “belong to”
the guest who actually started to use that ticket.

As an example of what Robo just said: I have a "person" in my MDE listed as "TicketSaver." I have some 6 day hoppers attached to that "person," but they are never included on my hotel reservations or dining, etc.

I completely agree with you. I realized by first scenario was backwards and not thought through. But I was asking whether once a MagicBand was link to a person it cannot be reassigned/relinked to another person. Is that correct? (Just for my knowledge)

Okay yes this is what I want to do. Can I put all 4 of my families 4 day tickets in this ticketsaver profile or do I need a ticketsaver profile for each person in my party? How does this work with scheduling fast passes? Can I book one day of fastpasses before I move the old tickets out and wait to buy my 1 day ticket until right before my trip or should I buy the 1 day tickets in time to make my fastpasses for that one day?

I went to my MDE to look around and see how I could do this scenario. I have a package with 5 day base tickets, but when I try to reassign these tickets to someone else I get the following message:

"Paperless Tickets that are expired, in-use or that were purchased as part of a package cannot be assigned to anyone else. Only the owner of a ticket may assign it to another Guest."

If the tickets are part of a package you can't re-assign them? Also, the MagicBands that were issued by Disney for our trip were automatically linked to a particular individual. If MagicBands can't be transferred to another person, then in OP's case they would have to create dummy accounts and link the 1 day tickets there and use a card or other MagicBands right?

I have all of our hoppers attached to one Ticketsaver.

As for the FP I would just buy the 1 day tickets and be done with it before your window opens.

I have a 2 day PH ticket in my MDE profile from a package we did last September. At the time I had an active AP, so I used that during our September trip, and saved the PH ticket. It stayed in my regular MDE profile, I never had to assign it or move it to a "dummy" profile. I'm planning on using that 2 day PH for my trip this September. All of this reassigning and dummy profiles sounds like a lot of complication for nothing.

It took me about one minute to make a dummy profile, which saved me from going to guest relations and asking them to prioritize my tickets. You may not have to do that either, but I am a nervous enough person to want to make sure it's all correct.

Yeah, I don't remember having to go to guest relations either, so maybe I got lucky. If I recall, I already had the AP from my trip last April when we booked the package for September, so maybe that made a difference. I'm a nervous person too, so I totally understand that. :)

Tickets that are part of a package can not be transferred to another person until the tickets are "active" which is on check-in day. MBs are linked to a particular individual and will access any tickets also linked to that individual. If the OP buys 1-day tickets they can link them to each person on the profile and the MB assigned to that person will access the 1-day ticket.

One thing...these days tickets do expire, even if they are unused. After they expire though, you will be able to pay the difference (value vs. current gate price) to use them. They don't disappear, you just have to pay the difference to update them (though that might not be the exact correct Disney term).

I didn’t go to Guest Services to prioritize my tickets a couple weeks ago. I just took a chance the system would work correctly. I did keep any eye on our package tickets to make sure they weren’t used instead of our APs. So we were both lucky. I figured they could fix it if there was a problem after if it came up.

The tickets in the packages don't become active until check in day. At that time you can move an unused ticket to a dummy family member profile. If you try before that you will get the message the PP posted.

You can purchase the 1 day ticket, have it linked to your band, and BEFORE you enter a park reassign the 4 day ticket. CM's will tell you they can prioritize the tickets but I'm always worrying that my MDE account will be the glitch of the day and not get it right. Moving the unused ticket to another "person" is fool proof. You FP res should not drop as long as there are active tickets in your MDE account. I know they can fix any errors but I don't want to waste time at customer service to do it, would rather just tap and enter the park with no worries.

And for reference, you can move these unused tickets back and forth to yourself for advance FP purposes and then back to the dummy profile as long as they are unused. Would assume that after the expiration date (I currently have some from last year that expire 12/31/18) they could be used only as a credit and maybe not good for advanced FP anymore, need to wait and see on that.

It's not really complicated, just add a placeholder name to your "friends and family" list, then reassign the ticket. Takes only a minute.
