SO we are sooooo excited we are 65 days til our trip and I finally paid it off. Now to save for the trip itself, I have heard suggestions about Disney gift cards any other suggestions or things you have done. I have 3 kids 15, 11 and 2 and my Dad gave them all 50.00 towards spending money so I thinking of gift cards for them for sure. Can I add money to them or do I just have to keep buying them as they save. Also for me I guess I want something that I can't spend ;)

I dont do gift cards, so I am no help there, but I did direct deposit a certain amount per paycheck into savings and did not allow myself to touch it. Most of what I withdraw from savings will be travelers checks for our upcoming trip. 19 days! :cool1::woohoo::banana::goodvibes

When I'm saving for a Disney Trip (or Christmas), I make a point of never spending coins when I shop. At the end of every day, I throw all of the coins and one dollar bills in my purse into a jar. It adds up fast and you barely notice the difference.

This is what we do. It is AMAZING how quickly it adds up. Last year, we hundreds of dollars....over $300 just from coins. Granted, we collect all year but it adds up quickly. We also keep our cans and redeem the deposit. It's kind of a pain but that gives us $20 every couple of months.

Have fun!

Two years ago when I was saving spending money for a cruise, I tried this...and it really worked.

I saved my $5's. Every time I got a $5 bill, I tucked it away. It didn't hurt the pocketbook that much, and after a while they really added up!

Some weeks I'd get them in change a few times; other weeks, maybe only once. But every single one went into an envelope for cruise spending money.

In 7 months I had set aside almost $600, and honestly my budget never felt the money 'gone'.

These are great ideas! I wouldn't get gift cards for your 15 year old. They may not want any disney items. If you want them to use the money for snacks, it would work, but I have sons and they do not want Disney clothes/items.

Disney gift cards can be used at most Disney owned properties. They do not have to be used just for merchandise. They are reloadable so you can add to the same card over and over again. Also, if you hang onto your receipt, you are able to replace them if they are lost or stolen. Many people use gift cards as a way to save for their vacation.

We do a few things we do put money onto a Disney gift card usually by the time we go we have between 3 and 500$ on there. You can spend the gift cards almost everywhere at Disney. Also saving the spare change works great too.
