I'm assuming the "blunt" comment is for me? That is one of the disadvantages of the internet - you cannot control how your comments are interpreted. I try my best to never say anything on the internet that I would not also say in person. If I type something that I wouldn't say in person, I delete it. I haven't had any trouble on the DISboards although I have been on the other end, finding some other comments pretentious and condescending. However, that seems to be very few and far between, at least in the forums I have participated in. Also, none of my other comments are so...passionate. I have been CDing for many years, and I can get my feathers ruffled when misinformation is disseminated.
I'm not sure how long ago you cloth diapered, but doing a bleach water mix is completely unnecessary and is actually never recommended (on a regular basis though on occasion is usually fine). I know thirty years ago, people used wet pails, bleached every time, etc. That is no longer the case with "modern" cloth diapers. You wash diapers just like you would anything else using almost any detergent. Again, I just ask that people be informed rather than spread false information.
I completely understand and respect that. There are certainly things I would never trust used, especially safety-wise. For example, I would never buy a used car seat, and even though professionals (as in pediatricians, etc) recommend against it as well, some people have no issue with it. The things I have felt comfortable purchasing used, whether I know the person or not, I take time and care to sanitize it in a way that I feel is thorough. In fact, I do the same with new because factories and transport trucks aren't clean, and of course people touched the items in the store. I can understand the want to compare underwear and toothbrushes, but it is really not the same. Cloth diapers are of much higher quality and made to be used over many years, hundreds of washes, and multiple children. But sure, if I wasn't able to afford new underwear, I would just sanitize what I could afford from Goodwill or wherever. I am fortunate enough to afford what I want, not just what I need, and it sounds like you are, too. That's great! I just hope you can support, or at least respect, someone who isn't as fortunate or maybe has strong beliefs in reduce, reuse, recycle. I certainly sell or donate my good condition items, even if I wouldn't personally buy those same items used, because I know it helps out a lot of people who aren't as lucky as my family.
