I've spent quite a bit of time over the past 6 months or so planning our October trip to WDW. Recently I started to fret just a bit over how much money we were going to be spending, so I took a few minutes today to price out a "package" comparable to the arrangements I've made so far, using tips I've found here on the Disboards.
We're traveling with a group of 11, me, DH, DD, DS, DD and SIL, DS and DIL, and 2 grandkids, plus my mother.
The "package", using my son, daughter in law and their 2 kids (6 and 7), for an example: including rooms at OKW and ASMo, Airfare, park tickets, and rental car, came to $4,561.00.
Using "rented" DVC points for OKW, booking flights with Delta when the internet sites showed a drop in fares, using my Disney Club discount for park passes and the one night at ASMo, and a Delta discount for the rental car (a convertible, nonetheless), the same trip came to $2565.00.
A savings of $2000 for them just took a little careful planning. Figuring similar costs for the rest of us, I think we're doing all right! And I'll keep watching, just to see if we can improve the situation even more.
It's still a lot of money, but I guess the magic of the grandkids (and the kids' spouses) being there for the first time is worth it.
I feel better now!
