I originally booked a two bedroom Beach Club Villa for 6 adults and two children for this coming December, on line, total cost with park tickets and meal plan $7570.95. I then went on the DVC trade/rent site and rented a Boardwalk, two bedroom villa, for the same time period, at $10.00 per point, cost $1690.00. The tickets will cost me about $2231.00, and the meal plan around $1530.00, total cost about $5451.00 or a savings of over $2000.00 over the on line Disney price. Just something to think about.

Are you getting the tickets from Walt Disney World, or from an authorized ticket reseller? And when is your trip? If it's more than a month away, go to mousesavers.com and sign up for the newsletter that gets sent on the fifteenth of every month. UndercoverTourist.com is an ATR, and the newsletter has a link so readers can get an even bigger discount than the general public.

Authorized = by WDW, so they're 100% legitimate!

I haven't purchased the tickets yet, just quoted the Disney price. We're going Dec. 12-17.

I second this!! :goodvibes

Just something to keep in mind ~ when you rent points, you pay for the dining plan when you check in. You aren't required to purchase tickets through WDW (like you would to purchase a package through them).

When you rent points, everything can be bought ala cart, so to speak. :)

I'd go with Undercover Tourist and save even more on the tickets!! :goodvibes

What kind of savings can be had?

We go in the offseason and we have gotten the boardwalk and wilderness for $90 a night! Now that we have 3 kids we cant get a studio anymore, so we are out of luck unless we want the 2 bdrm. But for a long time this saved us a ton of money!

we ordered tickets thru the mousesavers link to undercover tourist.

WOAH! Great deal! I always go off-season, I would LOVE to get deals like this - you got these rates by signing up for undercover tourist?

I think she means she rented dvc points and was able to stay for 90$ a night.

I don't know of any DVC discounts on Mousesavers per say. I believe discounts are only through Disney (pin codes etc) or renting points.

Undercovertourist just sells tickets. You can rent points for DVC and save money on lodging (but you also have to have trust both ways in who you're renting from and who you're renting to).

The mousesavers link to undercovertourist tickets usually is the cheapest way to buy WDW tickets.

You can only get tickets through Undercovertourist, not book rooms. I believe the earlier PP was referring to renting points from a DVC member in the off-season to get that rate. Check out the DVC Rent/Trade board for all the ins and outs on renting points. We have rented our last 4 trips or so and it is a great way to stay in a villa without breaking the bank.

Your best bet for discounted tickets would be the Give-A-day tickets. I am not sure when you are going but they have to be redeemed by Dec. 15. That could be up to $80 a person off your tickets!

I've rented twice now. first time was $600 for a week at BWV (studio). I just recently rented, currently at SSR but hoping to change to BLT at 7 months. I've paid less than $500 for 4 nights in a studio.

Also, keep in mind there are only so many allotted free Give-A-Day tickets; and I'm wondering if there will be any left by December 15. Just a thought.

Hi all. I am new to the DVC renting points way of doing things. We have always just stayed at the values. We are planning to go next spring, so a few questions...

* If I am understanding correctly, you can still get the DDP when renting points from a DVC member? Really? I thought the DDP was only available on a MYW pkg with a room through WDW and tickets included. When renting pts you can do ala carte through various businesses?

* Where is the DVC website? In essence, you are renting from a DVC member, not Disney directly, correct? So this transaction would be between two private people? I would want to use my Disney Visa for points - so would most ppl accept paypal, thus charging thru a cc?

* I always thought that the DVC accommodations were always the bigger rooms - villas, etc. We have only 4 ppl in our family and a regular room is fine - but a regular room at the WL or the Poly would be wonderful! And, if we could get it for near the same price as a value ... fabulous!

Perhaps this is a best kept secret or something ... but why WOULDN'T a person do this if it is an wonderful as it sounds??? :confused3:goodvibes

Thanks Waltsdouble for bringing this up. What a great savings you are finding! Congrats!

I have always wnted to try renting points. Maybe this will be my inspiration!

Some people are uncomfortable renting from a private party. Also, the reservations are generally not where you can cancel them (at least not as easily as directly with Disney) because you're using someone's points. Personally, I don't have a problem with it at all (in fact, I never stay in hotel rooms anymore), but I understand why some people do (for example, not everybody's plans are as firm as mine tend to be - it's almost impossible to stop me once I plan a trip!).

There is a DVC rent/trade board here on the DIS. Read the thread about renting points first. They're very specific. You rent points for a dollar amount set by the Owner. They check availability and make the reservation. You cannot confirm with DVC or Disney about your reservation (which is why you need to rent from a person with a good reputation).

You can't get a room renting points at the Poly as the Poly is not a DVC resort. I believe the studios are approx. the same size (but a little bigger to accomodate for the kitchenette area) as the regular rooms (depending upon where you're staying).

It's not always as easy as just I want to stay here and renting points. You have to figure out how many points you need to stay wherever and then find someone with as many points as you need to stay there. Sometimes it takes a little while to find what you want, sometimes you have to be flexible with where you want to stay, and sometimes (holiday times especially) it's almost impossible to be able to find anything. But it is usually a great deal if you can!

:banana::banana:

Actually you can get a room at the Poly on points because it is NOT a DVC resort (but the points it takes are sky-high).

You can't get a room on points at any resort that has a DVC component. So you cannot use points to book a room at Wilderness Lodge, for example, because it has the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

I see. That makes sense :) Thanks for clarifying!

I also wanted to add that the payment the Owner accepts is up to that Owner. Most accept money order, cashiers checks, or paypal. Some require the buyer to pay the paypal fees though so that might outweigh the Disney Visa reward dollar points.
