I urge everybody to go to http://www.savetheinternet.com and sign the petition. Then contact your congressmen to say yes for Net Neutrality. There is a lot of information on this website to read up about what Net Neutrality is. This affects the entire Internet, including disboards.com. Please sign the petition. :thumbsup2

Does it effect the Internet 2? I'm expecting that to be available for the average user in a couple of years or so.

Most likely yes. The phone and cable companies don't want Net Neutrality. They want to turn the Internet into a 2 Tier system in which more popular, wealthy, websites will get an advantage over regular websites.

The problem is that almost nobody uses the internet 2 at the moment. One reason why it's so ridiculusly fast. What would the appeal be?

The appeal deals with something to do with the phone and cable companies getting more money. Companies will pay AT&T more money, so they can have faster websites.

But like I said, nobody uses the internet 2 just yet, hence, there isn't too much money in it right now. :confused3

Oh, well it affects the current internet and then probably internet 2.

Meh, I still dunno if I'm going to put my name on that.

I'm very iffy when it comes to signing petitions. I need to know EVERYTHING about the issue before I even consider putting my name on it.

I encourage you to go do some research on Net Neutrality then, because it could be the only thing to keep the internet neutral.

Meh.. I'll look at it.
but it doesn't seem too important right now.. I mean, I looked at who it affected, and I fell into none of those catergories.
besides I don't use Verizon, AT&T or Comcast.

Ummm... wow, I don't think you quite understand this. Here's a short 2.5 minute video explaining exactly what is happening. This does affect you, because you use the internet. http://youtube.com/watch?v=l9jHOn0EW8U&search=net%20neutrality

again, it still doesn't seem important to me.
i don't use the internet for my phone service, and I really don't care if my search provider is changed, because it still allows me to search.

The search engines were just examples, this can affect any website.

According to a just-released Rasmussen Report, only 21% of the respondents want the FCC to regulate the Internet.

That comes in the wake of the Federal Communications Commission's 3-2 decision Dec. 21 to expand and codify its network neutrality rules. That decision split the commission along party lines, with the Republicans strongly, even harshly, opposed.

"American voters believe free market competition will protect Internet users more than government regulation and fear that regulation will be used to push a political agenda," said Rasmussen of its national telephone survey.

Between those who are opposed to government interference in business, and those, like MuNkY and Babyjustrun, who see no compelling reason for the government to manipulate the marketplace this time, it is clear that outside of the FCC, itself, and über-consumerists, there is very little support for so-called "net neutrality" regulation.
