Hi everyone! First time posting here, been lurking for a while. We got engaged yesterday :lovestruc and we have talked about a Disney Wedding for a while. Now that we can start to plan, we are looking at next Oct 2010 for our date and would like a 'casual' wedding. Does this even happen at Disney?! _:confused3 I've seen mostly formal stuff.
Anyone know when to send out Save the Dates for a destination wedding? Most everyone will be coming from IL. Any other ideas or advice is GREATLY appreciated! Thnx!!

Congratulations!

There have been plenty of casual weddings at Disney. That's the great thing about a Disney wedding - you can make it as simple or as fancy as you want, and either kind of wedding fits in.

I think ours was pretty casual - we had brunch at the Attic at BoardWalk Inn, with no dancing or assigned seating or DJ or anything. We wanted it to feel like family and friends just hanging out rather than a formal reception.

If you click on the "Wedding!" link in my signature, it'll take you to the first page of my trip report - from there, you can click to see the description and pictures of our reception.

You can also read tons of other wedding reports by clicking on the two subforum links at the top of this forum - one is to active planning journals and trip reports, the other is to completed ones.

We sent our Save the Dates out about 5 months before the wedding, but that's because we only started planning it about then. Some people send them out 9 months or a year before - it can't hurt to give your guests plenty of notice for a destination wedding. :thumbsup2

Congrats! :goodvibes Another Chicago suburbanite on the board, awesome! :thumbsup2

I think with save the dates, the sooner you can let your guests know your plans, the better for a destination wedding.

Will you be starting a planning journal? I would love to follow along. :goodvibes

Yay for Chicago... and another CUBS fan!! My fiance and I are getting married at the Swan and Dolphin which is another option to possibly look into :)

I am originally from Chicago as well. My job has taken me from Chicago to California, to Florida, then to Texas and now living with fiance in Michigan. We are planning an escape wedding for December 2010. I plan on sending out our 'Save the Date' invitations in December, the sooner, the better. :bride:

Thanks girls!!!! Yes, Cubs fans ALL THE WAY. :) Fiance is a season ticket Bears and Blackhawks holder too, so I'm a *Widow* during the season. LOL

I bought Lurky's book, so we will be going thru that to start, but I'm thinking we will send out the Save the Dates as soon as we pick a date! Has anyone gotten married or is getting married in October at Dis? I'm wondering if that's a busy time to book weddings at Disney? Or can we wait til we go down in January and talk to wedding planner to book??? Thoughts?

I will start a planning journal as soon as we get some plans ironed out :) Thanks for the congrats!! We are thrilled!!

DIsney lets you create the day you envisioned, whether its casual or black tie! I think it's in the details.
