No offense but I would not ask my wife to keep me alive under those conditions. Nor would I force her to live like that either.

I hope you all have considered all the information available in this case before coming to your own conclusions. These people are desparate in their effort. Whether you agree with them or not, they are now, unfortunately, resorting to slander and false accusations. There is absolutely no evidence that this man abused his wife. She suffered a heart attack, caused by a potassium imbalance, an undiagnosed metabolic disorder, which deprived her brain of oxygen for 10 minutes. The broken bones they are citing were detected in a routine bone scan well after she became vegetative. Broken bones are very common in these situations. The body becomes brittle, and even lifting her to change the sheets could break her bones.

Her family also claims her husband just wants the medical malpractice award, a $700,000 trust fund established to pay for her medical care. How much of this money do you think is left after 13 years of full time medical care?

This is a heartbreaking situation all around. I really do feel bad for her family, but I don't believe for a second the garbage they are publicizing about the husband. JMO, of course, but please look at all the information available before coming to your own conclusion.

I think it is a little too late for the petition. It asks Jeb Bush to look into the situation...he already has. It says the husband has asked to remove the feeding tube...It has already been removed.

I think it heartbreaking for both sides.

Moinab,
You make some fair points.
What I can't understand is that the husband waited until after more than $1m had been awarded for Terri's care and rehabilitation before mentioning that she would not have wanted to live through artificial means.
He also said in court that he wanted to bring her home and look after her for the remainder of her expected lifetime of 50 years.
If Terri had left a living will, then fine, but I have a problem with a dreadful death being visited on someone because their spouse said that's what they wanted. I think it is a very dangerous precedent.

For anyone who would like to try calling, Governor Bush's telephone number is (850) 488 4441.

Terri's family website is at www.terrisfight.org

And this is my stance as well.
My biggest fear and concern is whether my husband would have the courage to make what amounts to one of the hardest decisions a person could ever make in this life, to allow a loved one to pass on after they become vegetative.

Personally, there are other reasons I would want to be allowed to die as well, it wouldn't JUST be a vegetative state that I would fear........tremendous amounts of pain or other suffering that I would deem as *too much* might also cause me to want to be allowed to seek my own demise. (read: to die)

SandraM,

You clearly have considered the information available in forming your opinion and I applaud that. My concern was that the original link provided very little information, and was very inflammatory, making it seem like this was a clear-cut case of spousal abuse that the authorities were ignoring or covering up.

I don't want to get into a debate. I am just uncomfortable with false information being used to sway people's emotions.

This is a very difficult decision. I can't even begin to speculate what I would do. My heart goes out to all involved.

I know a woman who made the difficult decision to have her husband's feeding tube removed....... I would NEVER stick my nose (no matter how well meaning) into such a personal family issue.

Please, everyone needs to think about this issue, and how it would affect them personally.

Talk with your spouse and/orloved ones, and then put your wishes in writing!!!
