We are taking advantage of the Disney Visa $99/two bedroom at Hilton Head DVC in February instead of using our points. We are scheduled to land in Savannah around noon. I know it states that check in is at 4pm. We have always been lucky each time we have been to HH in that we have able to get into our room early, but I have no idea what it will be like in February. (we usually visit in the summer)

How long of a drive is it from the airport to the resort? Is there anything we should see in Savannah before we head to the resort?

We will also run into a few free hours going home. Check out is at 11 and our flight does not leave until 4pm. We could spend a bit of time in Savannah this day also.

Thanks,
Karen

We drove there in March .It was a hour or so to Savannah the back roads wind around or the interstate goes stright but a longer drive to get ou to it from the island. Lots of stuff to do and see in Savannah.

We've always gone directly to the resort. Then, while we're waiting to get into our room, that's when we run over to Piggly Wiggly for groceries. By the time we get back, the rooms always been ready.
Woops, I just reread your question-you said check out not check in. After check out, we have a tradition (is 2 years a tradition) of driving around the island a little to say "Good-bye", then going to the Greek place for lunch. If there's time, there are some outlet stores shortly after you leave the island (in Beamont?) we stop at. Never been in Savanah.

It's about an hour drive to HH. THe airport is actually outside of svannah and you'd have to go the other way to get there, but the riverwalk and historic homes and parks are worth a visit. there are neat cemetaries and fun places to eat. It's very different from HH. If you love to shop the outlet malls on the road right off the island (HH) are very good and time consuming.

We spent the day in Savannah. Toured two historic homes and had lunch at the famous Lady and her sons restaurant. The food was excellent.

Another vote for Lady and Sons -- make reservations though. Also if you (or if you have a daughter who is one) were a Girl Scout, you can tour the Juliette Gordon Low birthplace -- the founder of the Girl Scouts. It was a very interesting tour.

Or, if your husband is a hunter or fisherman, you could get drug to the Outdoor World store at the mall west of Savannah.

Lady & Sons is wonderful! We took a carriage tour of Savannah when we were there - the carriage stop is about a block from Lady & Sons - it was very interesting and we got to see many of the squares. After our tour we walked over to see the Mercer House and other sites of the famous book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", including Bonaventure Cemetery. We loved Savannah - it is a beautiful town!

The Juliette Low house tour is open to anyone. I took a male friend once who complained about going to a Girl Scout Tour. By the end he loved it since the house was very authentic (he is a design buff!)

Glad you all had such a great time here in my hometown!!! If you need more info, you can go to www.savannahvisit.com there's lots of info about tours and things like that. It takes about 45 minutes to get to HH if you drive the back roads, but it's a very scenic route.

Thanks for all the information! It sounds like we will not have enough spare time now!!! It will be a great trip!

We will be driving thru Savannah on the way to HH. Has Lady & Sons started taking reservations, again?? I read that they had quit that perk after moving to the new location so that the locals could figure in since out of towners were hogging up the place.
:listen:

New location???

Someone better tell me about this - we are going next summer and I can't miss L&S!

L & S just moved a few blocks down from the original location a year ago about this time. . We were there on the last day at the old location. They closed for about 3 weeks to make the move. The new place is a 3 story building, not too far from where it was. I know where it is, but have not been there yet.
You'd think that a bigger location would fix the problem of waiting in line, but I have heard it has not. That's why I was wondering about the reservation status.
For the exact address go to www.ladyandsons.com.:flower2:

Savannah is enchanting! We were there in January and had a great time! Take a tour if you have time!

L&S is always busy! It's really difficult to get a table for dinner, but we've never had a problem just walking in for an early lunch. Hope you guys stop by and visit our city and have a wonderful time!
