We are driving from Hershey, PA and plan on pushing through and making it to Savannah, GA our first day. I’ve never been to that area. Any hotel recommendations? We’ll be in the room only to sleep so we don’t need anything fancy. I’m not sure if it’s better to stay in Savannah itself or to stay closer to I95. We do plan on eating dinner in Savannah that night; it will be Father’s Day and I thought Savannah would have a lot of nice places for dinner.

Thanks!

I just did a vacation there about a month ago. The old historic area is beautiful and the city market area and river front areas were pretty fun with tons of places to eat. The trolly tour was really interesting (if you're into history and old houses and stuff). Unfortunately, we stayed in a condo with a 2 night minimum so can't help on that front.

If I were going to be stopping in the Savannah area, I'd opt for downtown Savannah and something on River Street. Downtown Savannah is not that far of a detour from I-95 and it's a fun little city.

The Hyatt Regency is a good chain/name brand spot that's right on River Street. https://savannah.regency.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html

I have not personally stayed there in years but the location is hard to beat. It is literally right on River Street.

If you want newer/more trend (also probably more expensive), The Bohemian (which is next door to the Hyatt) is a good choice: https://www.marriott.com/hotels/tra...on/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2

We tend to like Hampton Inns for one night-stays because consistency is usually pretty good, this one doesn't dissapoint: http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/ho...savannah-historic-district-SAVDTHX/index.html

It's not right on River Street, but is just across the street.

Hope that helps!

Depends on how much you want to spend as far as where to spend the night. You can go fairly expensive along the river or go to a Holiday Inn a little further out but still be close enough to drive to the river in about 5 min. The historic district is full of B&Bs, Inns and chain hotels, just take your pick. As far as where to eat, again depends on how much you want to spend. If you want to eat at any of the nicer or trendy places, you will need a reservation but there are plenty of places along the river to just walk into and get seated. I'd do a google search or check Travelocity. I live in Georgia and Savannah is my go to place for long weekends and I almost always stay at the River Street Inn, which is an old converted cotton warehouse and supposedly haunted.

Thanks everyone! I booked the Homewood Suites by Hilton across from the river. It looks to be right in the center of things. Looking forward to our stay!
