We are driving to WDW and our 1st stop will be in Savannah, GA. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel and restaraunt? We are only spending 1 night there and then off to Disney.

Thanks,

Are you looking for somewhere just to stop and stay, or are you wanting to go in the city for an experience? We're partial to Marriotts, so if you are just looking for someplace to stay, there is a Spring Hill Suites right off of I95 as well as others like Hampton Inn, etc. The area is ok...
Savannah itself is a beautiful city, and one of my favorite cities. I just adore it's rich history. We have family that lives close, so we really don't stay much in the city, but we have stayed at the Westin Savannah Harbor, (very nice and pricey, we stayed for our anniversary one year) it is across the river from the actual city of Savannah, in a beautiful location, and you look across the river at the city. There are boats to shuttle you across the river to the heart of the river walk area with lots of shops, hotels and restaurants.
We've also stayed at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront, right on the river close to a lot of the shops and restaurants.

If you are looking for something specific, I would try Trip Advisor, it ranks hotels in the city and gives pretty accurate photos and reviews of the hotels. I would try to keep within the riverside/historic districts if you are wanting to be within the city.

As for restaurants go, there are a few really touristy places that many will steer you to, like Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House, Paula Deen's place, but honestly they are just not that good. There are sooo many little restaurants/cafes that are wonderful, you can find something to your liking if you ask. I honestly can't remember the names of any places we've eaten. If you ask when you are there, I'm sure you will find something nice. Or someone here might post. If you don't get many responses, post it on the Community Board, it gets a lot more traffic.
THe only "touristy" restaurant I would recommend is The Olde Pink House, it's historic, upscale and very good, but pricey too.

Hope you have a great stop in Savannah and a great trip to WDW!

Thanks so much for the suggestions!

We are only staying 1 night on the way to Disney, but on the way back we plan on stopping there for a couple of nights. Last year we stayed at 4 points by Sheratin, because we did not book a hotel ahead of time. 4 points was nice but pricey and the place the hotel recommended for dinner was awful. I don't remember the name but it was a seafood place.

Thanks,

We stayed at The River Stree Inn, on our one trip to Savannah. It is a really nic historic hotel on River Street that used to be an old Mill. It was $159/night AAA rate in Feb 2007 and the rates are still similar, that was for a River View.

I am really funny about where I will stay, Disney has me spoiled as far as expectations on the rooms, and I don't like some of the chain hotels.

We went specifically to eat at Lady and Sons and that is the only restaurant we ate at for the 2 meals we were there, and it was wonderful. We are hoping to get to go again before the end of the year.

Thanks! I heard it's difficult to get in to Lady and Sons.

It can be, but to me it is soooooo worth it. We have been trying to get back and I am hoping to stay over one night after our Christmas trip and either trying to get in for dinner on arrival day or lunch the next day. If you get in line at opening, you should have no problem getting a time if you go during the week. Things are a little different on Sundays and it is a buffet only and they don't really give times like during the week.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in the Historic District . It was nice , clean and conveniently located. It was under $200/ night. Hope that helps.:)

Do you want to stay right off of I-95? If you give me some of your likes and dislikes food wise I can suggest something for that also. I work in Savannah so I am very familiar with the area!
