It's a small thing, really, but there seems to be some confusion about the spelling of the areas for animals at AKV/AKL.

One quick way to remember is that Savannah is a city in Georgia, but a Savanna is where you find animals in Africa. So....if you want to go to Savannah, you wont see many animals, but you sure will if you are booked on a savanna at AKV!;)

I know I get too snooty about this, but I wish everyone could spell *Kidani*. And I especially wish that folks understood that sight = something you see, cite = referencing an article or a source, and site = refers to a web location.

Here's the snooty icon :snooty:

Yes, and it's is a contraction for it is. Its shows possession.

And it's they're, not there or their, if you are referring to 'they are.'

Disney themselves often uses (or used) the Savannah spelling. I don't know if it's still the case but back when I booked AKL for the very first time, I remember that the Disney website described the room types as Standard, Pool View and Savannah View. So I always used to describe those rooms as "Savannah view" because that is the way Disney described them.

They finally changed it when AKV was announced and the AKV literature used "Savanna View" instead of "Savannah View".

Ah, the "English" language is SO complicated! But I do agree, I appreciate it when people are careful with their, shall we say, grammatical usage...although we all make mistakes sometimes! (Unfortunately, some of my family and friends are guilty of this and they drive me crazy!) I do think many of us are getting more lax about it, though, thanks to email, texting, etc. Maybe we need to form an organization...or join one. Any ideas for an apt acronym, anybody?

I couldn't find anything in Disney material that spelled it Savannah. I always think Savannah looks more like a name than Savanna.

I thought they had changed it but I just checked and they still spell it "savannah" some of the time. Scroll down this page: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/animal-kingdom-lodge/ and you will find this text where they use both spellings within the same paragraph:

The Sunset savannah, the Arusha savannah and the Uzima savannah are the 3 savannahs located at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, measuring approximately 10 acres each. Each savannah features a unique look and feel, and is home to different exotic animals. Throughout the hotel, there are alcoves with glass windows that provide views of the savannas. Guests can view animals for 24 hours a day;

Further down the page they describe the room types:

Room types at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge boast standard views, pool views and savannah views, some of which offer glimpses of the wildlife right from the comfort of your balcony.

How does this help you remember it? It's not a mnemonic... it's just the definitions.

The online Oxford English Dictionary claims that "A treeless plain; properly, one of those found in various parts of tropical America" is spelled "savannah" If you query for "savanna", you get the entry "savannah".

It also gives the following Alternate Forms: 6 zavana, 7 savanar, savanah, pl. savanæ, 7-8, 20 savana, 7- savanna, savannah.

LOL! TMI! Sorry I brought it up!:lmao:

Hey DianeS.

Yep, we spell it Savannah down here, and we do have animals. Gators, deer, the occational Black Bear and Panther (Not very occationally), otters, squirrels and birds. Got lots of sea beasts here too. Did I mention Gators?

The name of the City may have come from the grassland like marshes around here, or, the name of a local Indian tribe.

The best story is that when Oglethorpe was sailing up the river to found Georgia, a child named Anna fell overboard. The cry went up "Save Anna, Save Anna" thus the name was born.

When are those pesky Englishmen going to learn to speak the language? I, for one, am tired of them polluting our language.
