Sausage cheese balls

Ok this may be a stupid question but I have to make sure. Do you put the sausage, cheese, and Bisquick mix together then roll the balls or do wrap them in the Bisquick? I'm sure as soon as I post this I will figure it out and feel silly for not knowing.

Kimblebee-you mix all 3 together.

I've always done the package of sausage, 2 cups cheese, 2 cups bisquick and baked at 350 for 15 minutes...a little longer if they aren't brown on top. They're always plenty done in that amount of time! I don't have much problem with grease at all, and I prefer them room temperature to hot.

I make these for christmas morning also. We always, always use Wampler's sauage. If you can get it, try it. I toured their plant once and and it was impressively clean and tidy.

Enjoy!!

These sound really good but I just want to be clear on the sausage. You don't cook it at all, you just mix the raw sausage in the mix and then bake for 20 minutes. And that's long enough?
Sounds like the perfect thing to cook with all the sweet buns we will have!
I never pre-cook the sausage. And yes...baking them in the oven for 20 minutes is plenty long enough.

Mix all the ingredients together, then roll into balls.

I know this is an older thread but I have one more question. Do I make up Bisquick batter or just mix sausage, cheese, and the dry powder? I have changed my mind on the answer a dozen times and I just want to make sure. TIA

Have you ever tried the Schwetty Balls recipe?

Sorry, Couldn't resist. That clip was just on the on the SNL Christmas special.

Never had them but was planning on making them next week also. Now that I read Jimmy Dean sausage, I am wondering if we can use regular sausage (like the one for sausage and peppers. That is what I was actually thinking of. Are they the same? Does it matter?

Thanks.

I use the kind you buy in a plastic wrapper, not kielbasa style, if that makes sense. Jimmy Dean, Neese's, etc. I don't eat the other kind, so I don't know if it would work or not.

Sausage you can slice would not work. It has to be squished together with the cheddar and bisquick. The rolls of breakfast sausage that crumbles is what you need.

I was thinking at first - of taking the sausage out of it's casings and crumbling it up. But I see everyone uses breakfast (is that right) sausage -

We tried these this morning for the first time and I found them really dry. I did precook the sausage so maybe that made a difference. I also think I needed more cheese. They were filling though. I think next time I will add more cheese and not precook the sausage.

I will say that I typically use very sharp cheddar, not the super thin stuff, and don't even try to work in a whole 2 cups of Bisquick. I go for less with the mix, more of the sausage and cheese.

I can't imagine cooking the sausage first. How would they ever stick together? I think the dryness would be from that. If all the sausage oil is gone, the bisquick powder just stays sort of powdery, doesn't it?

I make sausage balls similar to this often.

But the way I make mine is a slightly different than the previous poster...

Ingredients are simple

1 pound HOT sausage - I find that Jimmy Dean is the best
2 cups Bisquick
16 ounces SHARP Cheddar Cheese

I never have added water. And I don't pre-cook the sausage.

Mix ingredients with hands. Roll into balls.

Place onto cookie sheet and bake at 325 for 25 minutes.

That's it.

OMG, I love these boards.

Yummy
