Saturn vs. Honda

Well, I guess I'm in the minority. I had a Honda Civic and it was a piece of junk. I had nothing but problems with it, one right after the other. The sensors went out, the windows wouldn't go all the way up and had to be replaced, two new mufflers in 3 years time. The sunroof went out after just 2 years. Never again. I just got a Saturn this year so we will see.

I am in teh same boat as you my civic hatch was crap with only 15000Kilemters on it the driveline wnet and so did the power steering pump. Then the brakes went about 5 thousand K later. The 05 Odyssey we had was garbage tranny problems and video screen problems and power sliding door problems and that car only had 3000 kilometers on it.

We bought a 2005 Honda CRV last summer. I love it....I traded my gas guzzling Expedition..I think DH is still mourning the loss of the big SuV, but I am enjoying the ease of getting in and out of the CRV and great gas mileage. ..The only issue we have had with it is that some CRV's have a slight to moderate pull to the right when going 30-40 an hour (unfortunatly ours was one of them)....The service person at Honda claimed they had never heard of that....but finally agreed it was a problem with some CRV's as DH presented them with TSB's (technical service bulletin from Honda)that he found on the web, along with posts from CRV owners that also had this problem...They tried a couple of the fixes and finally got it right....We have a creak in the back seat and passenger door....probably a loose screw.,...DH is going to put it in the shop next week...but other than those items we love the CRV....
We are getting about 20-22 mpg around town, in traffic....havent had it on a trip yet.

I've owned 4 Honda Accords since 1990. Up until 2001, I put nearly 40,000 miles on each one every year. I never had any major problem with any of them, no surprises, no failures. My son is on his 3rd Accord, my wife drives an Odyssey, DIL drives a Civic, my daughter has a Highlander. A lot of Hondas (and one Toyota)... but no problems with any of them.

Yes, they cost more, but you don't have constant problems that unfortunately, plague most american cars.

Yeah, they cost more and they are still a top seller... I wonder why that is???

This is my advice if you get a saturn, live near a dealer or else you might not be able to find anyone to do work on it if something happens. My mom has a 97 Saturn and it's been holding off pretty good but it's wearing out.

Personally though I love hondas. We have or have had a civic, accord, and CRV. No problems with any of them.

I own my 2nd Saturn vehicle in 10 years - a 2003 Vue which I love. My first was a 2 year lease but I own my Vue. I like and respect the way this company does business and when I take the car in for routine maintenance, the same.

Prior to the lease on the first Saturn I was at a Honda Dealer in Thousand Oaks, CA. where I was going to purchase a Honda Civic. The dealer jerked me around and told me he would have to call me back the next day regarding my financing. He never called me back, I called for him and was told he wasn't available and he would return my call. He never returned my call so I called again a day later to be blown off again. I complained to management but they could have cared less. I am not a fan of Honda.

In fact, Honda provides their V6 engine to Saturn, but
your Saturn dealer would not want to mention it.

Mine mentioned it. When I was car hunting, I stopped at all the different dealerships before making my decision. When I stopped by the Saturn dealership and he was going over the features of the vehicle and mentioned that it had a Honda engine so you know it's good. I figured if he thought so highly of the Honda engine, why not go with Honda. I haven't regretted it. I love my CR-V. It's easy to drive and has had no maintenance problems. I'm at about 65K miles (many of them rough miles since I live in the middle of the woods down miles of dirt road) and it drives like the day I bought it.

Just bought a Honda Civic Si (2007) and I love it!!! :) :)
3 months of commuting to work and no problems.
I had a Honda Del Sol in the 90s and never had any problem with that car.
Also own a Toyota Tacoma 2002 truck and so far no problems.
Own a GMC Sierra heavy half pickup 2003 with no problems either.
Just call us the "No problem 3 vehicle bunch". :lmao:

I have had 3 saturns, I am a big fan oftheirs. The only reason I bought otherwise was that Saturn did not have a minivan when I wanted to get one but I do still have my old 1999 Saturn and use it as a station car-never had a problem with it at all other than routine maintainnce. The others I had were good too, one needed a motor mount after awhile but that was it... don't know why someone would think you have to live near a saturn to buy it, our local mom and pop shop works on them and fixes them just fine, no different than any other car....

I live in a town where there's no one that will fix them. We've found one person and they don't work on Saturn's anymore.

Then they must not work on Honda or GM, because 90% of Saturn engines are made of parts from those suppliers.

They will work on Hondas and GM's but we can't find places that will touch a Saturn for some reason.

We have never owned a Saturn, but we still own a 1992 Honda Accord. It runs beautifully and efficiently.

I love my 2007 Saturn Vue. It gets good gas mileage and I think it's a perfect size. The 2008 Saturn Vues are really beautiful!

This thread is from 2005 - why was it bumped up? I would hope that the OP bought a car by now!

=)

IMHO, Hondas definitely hold their value better, and Saturns are really just another GM car.
My problem is that Honda KNOWS that they have a superior product and can be kind of snotty about it. When my beautiful Accord was totalled by a rear-end collision, I seriously thought of replacing it with a CRV. They only had ONE new one on the lot, and the salesman was RUDE! I did not care for the color (black) and asked if I could order one in my color choice. He said "lady, we can't be bothered with that. If you don't take this car it will be sold in hours. I WON'T order anything for you!"
Consequently, I bought a Suburu Forester and love it!

Honda. There is no substitute. Nothing else even comes close.
