Just curious, which television sketch comedy show do you like best because it's more funnier, "Saturday Night Live" or "The Carol Burnett Show"? You can like both if want to. I do like "The Carol Burnett Show", like "Went With the Wind", "The Dentist", "The Family" (which was later a spin off, "Mama's Family"), "As the Stomach Turns", and those Tim Conway and Harvey Korman bloopers (like in "The Dentist" sketch), but I also like SNL, because it's been on NBC for 36 seasons, and has launched the careers of big movie and television stars, like Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtin, Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis - Dreyfus (yes, there was life before Elaine Benes, lol), Billy Crystal (though before he was on SNL, Billy Crystal was on "Soap", another television comedy show which I've heard of, but never seen), Joe Piscopo, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, David Spade, Phil Hartman, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Tim Meadows, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Darrell Hammond, Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers, etc.

Thanks,

The Carol Burnett Show!!! I want those episodes on DVD. I loved all of it. Musical numbers(Lady is a Tramp), Mama and especially........Mrs. HH-Wiggans!

OMG, I love Misses HHWiggans! Esp when she is sharpening her pencil and trying to work the intercom.

I miss the fake commercials they used to do on Carol Burnett. Or Harvey Korman as the old Jewish lady.

"I saw it in the window and couldn't resist"

To use an example frequently argued here: Burnett vs SNL is like comparing Disney vs Universal. I grew up watching both, but to this day, Carol Burnett and cast are the only ones that can cause me to laugh until I cry. SNL in it's best days (early days) wasn't anywhere near that funny.

:happytv:

I laughed out loud just thining about the Gone With the Wind wardrobe!

There's definitely things I've laughed at on SNL over the years, but mostly I don't turn it on. They often seem to go the cheap route and say something mean or yucky to try to get the laugh.

Gosh the dentist, the flight attendant and "First class", I could go on and on. I'm giggling aloud just thinking about my favourite setches.

Carol Burnett show by a mile! I'm sitting here chuckling as I think about some of those skits. LOVE it!

Yep. Carol Burnett. A skit you don't hear much about it the siamese elephant skit. I'd post a link but there is an unfriendly word at the end of it. They end up rolling on the floor laughing.

Absolutely Carol Burnett!

Hilarious show that we could watch as a family. No cringe-inducing moments, nothing inappropriate....just the perfect mixture of sweet and funny.

I used to love it when the cast would crack each other up during a skit.
There would just be silence as they would look down at the floor and shake quietly with laughter, not daring to look at each other. So funny!

SNL has it's moments, but not enough to keep me interested.

I'm not a big fan of Carol Burnett's show except for Mama's family skits. Unlike most people I found Harvey Korman and Tim corny and hated how they laughed at themselves. Love Carol, Vicki and Lyle, though.

SNL is a completely different show. It's satire and I've always preferred that kind of humor over just plain silly entertainment. My favorite part and I never miss it, is the NEWS! :lmao:

The funniest ever! Tim Conway was a genius.

This was my favorite. Harvey could NEVER keep a straight face. I think Tim did things on purpose to make him crack up.

Absolutely Carol Burnett! I'm laughing out loud thinking about Tim Conway and Harvey Korman in "The Dentist". Hilarious!

Carol and the gang were nothing short of pure genius.

It's a little like asking which is better? Space Mountain or the Beauty in the Beast stage show. They're both good, for what they are, but since they were, very deliberately, aimed to be different things (The Carol Burnett Show was a traditional, mainstream comedy show, while SNL is edgy, boundary-pushing, etc.) they're not comparable to each other.

Norkie!

The Carol Burnett Show was a classic. I think SNL is hit-or-miss, but the Carol Burnett Show was consistently funny.

The Carol Burnett show hands down. The entire cast were great at their craft. As PP's stated I love it when they would start to crack up and try to maintain control during the skit.

Carol Burnett by a mile. I absolutely loved the "Siamese Elephants" skit. It was good, clean fun. I have several of the episodes on dvd.

Carol Burnett. A cast of comic genius- flat out. They could take ANYTHING and make it funny.

I agree, Conway delighted in making Korman lose it during the skits. :lmao:
