Here's the scoop:

In order for us to be able to have a catered lunch at Cedar point, we have to make a substantial advance ticket purchase. Substantial in this case means it should represent 95% of those attending....

That would mean collecting monies from everyone who is going ahead of time and then making that purchase. I'm not so sure that this is such a great idea....or doable. I don't know that I'd be wiling to take on such a task. I really don't like getting in the middle of you and your money....

I did get a bunch of discount coupons that we can use to get good prices on gate admission. The coupons are good for a $9 discount on a one-day admission for adults and $5 for juniors. The group sales tickets would save us $14 for adults and .95 for juniors. Depending on how many kids you are travelling with, this may be a wash. I think I have enough coupons to get 120 adult and 120 junior discounts. Plenty.

What I don't know is what the feasibility of getting together for a meal without the catered event is. Any ideas would most certainly be welcomed.

I should mention too that the facility we'd be having the lunch in is indoors and not air conditioned. According to the rep, it does get a bit 'sticky' when it's hot outside.

So, RiddleCon attendees.....any thoughts?

Bernie, I understand the problem. I am not sure yet if DD is coming or not so buying advance tickets could be a problem. And I understand how people might not want to send money to someone they have not met before. NOr would I want to be in the middle of all that money. So, I would be willing to go with the discount coupons.

That being said, there has got to be a way for us all to meet up. We need to brainstorm on this. The whole point of the trip, for me at least, is to meet the Riddlers, not to go on rides. Maybe we can have an appointed time and place for everyone to meet. I can not see 100 of us going to a fast food stand at the same time.

This should be the next riddle, how to get all of us together.

I agree with Carol - I think we should find a place that we will meet up (reserve if possible without advance payment) and each of us then pay our own way at that time. I am not sure what the options are though for that?! I definitely think a meal/visit together is important!

We need to organize a thrill rides tour too! :)

I think someone who has been to Cedarpoint and knows the ropes should lead that. I have NO IDEA where I am going in this place!

I haven't been on the riddle thread for a while but we are still coming. I too think advance tickets might be a pain and wouldn't want to be in all that money either (I did it for Chef Mickey's at WDW in December and that was enough for me!). I agree too that part of the reason we are coming is to meet up with DISers that we haven't met and see people that we have met (or that I have met) - the other part is it's on our way from our cruise and we were going to work this into our vacation plans anyway probably.

I am still working on dinner info - I just haven't had a chance to call Damon's but it's on my list for next week. I guess I need to put a post up......

Anyway Bernie - how would you work getting the discount tickets to everyone? Just all meet at the gate at a specified time? Do you need us to PM you and let you know how many of us there are in our party? We might be able to get our tickets through AAA and thus be able to save the coupons for someone that might really need them. I'll let you know by Monday.

Hmm.....I'm trying to think how we can all MEET at the same time! This is a tough one.

There are nice picnic pavilions on either side of the entrance gates to Cedar Point. They hold WAY more than 100 people. They are "outside" the park gates, so you can bring your own food. Maybe we can do something with that????

Or we can plan to meet on the beach at some point during the day??????? That definitely can hold 100+.

December99-Just ate at Damon's last week! Definitely call and see what they say. The one end of the restaurant is perfect for large groups, not sure HOW large though?! :)

Yes you can get discount tixs through AAA. The picnic shelter is an idea. I'm still praying I can come I got a new job :!!

I'll just show up when and where I am supposed to. :) Looking forward to it. Thanks to all who are working on this project, a nice unofficial DIS event it will be.

I was also thinking about the picnic pavilions. When we used to perform at CP with marching band we would all bring coolers and then we could leave them at our area of the picnic area. I don't know if it costs anything to reserve this area though.

It's been so long since I used that picnic area, but we used to go there all the time in school for trips and use that for a good meeting place for lunch. I am sure some of us could even meet by there or close to there before even entering the park too.

Since my DH isn't sure if he is coming or not, I don't think I would be wanting to do an advance buy so wherever we would want to meet is fine with me :) Bernie, how would we work out getting the discount tickets if we do? And Juli, how much are AAA tickets? (and congrats on the new job)

AAA: Prices First is member price second is nonmember price.
Cedar Point Good Any Day Adult Age 3-59; 48 in. and taller $32.50 $43.95
Cedar Point Good Any Day Junior Age 3 or older; under 48 in. tall $21.25 $21.95

Meijers in Ohio, Michigan and I'd think Il, In have discount tixs but AAA still cheaper.

I don't think I can make it to Riddle Con, but I would like a doggie bag.

Thinking about lunch - is there a grocery around there that would be open before CP opens on Saturday morning? Could pick something up and hope it stays cold on ice in the cooler - wonder what time the picnic grounds would open up in the am

Picnic pavilions are outside the park gates so they are ALWAYS open. We'd just need to stake out our turf and cover it with tablecloths etc.

As for Grocery, there is a Super-Walmart right on Rt 250!

Just letting Bernie know that we will NOT need the discount coupons and wanted to make sure someone else could use them. We got our tics this weekend at the AAA office as we were getting tickets for other things.

For us - probably going to a grocery will be difficult and we will need to just purchase food in the park (we will have been gone from home for 2 weeks at this point and not have a cooler we can use with ice - not one sized to put food in it for 3 - we will have an electric cooler and I'm not lugging that thing around :D ).

Whatever is decided for lunch we will go with - or whatever group we team up with too.

Right now I am thinking dd and I will grab lunch and then meet up with everyone - not sure though

I wonder about the feasability of having pizza delivered to one of the pavilions???

I also have a lot of discount coupons that came in the stuff I sent for. I'll probably get AAA tickets, but I'll bring the coupons and I will be at the Days Inn.

I'm probably going to pick something up in the park and carry it out to the pavilion...

I'm going to start a "tablecloth brigade" thread to ask folks to sign up to stake out tables early on. We're camping there, so I should be able to get there early and mark a couple of tables. I figure if we get a few more folks doing that, we should be all set! :)

Thanks for the info on the tickets and coupons!!

Well we will definately be brown bagging it. We arrive home from WDW on the 31st so not only will I be tired of eating out but I will most likely be broke. LOL

The girls and I will definitely be buying something and bringing it...I will bring a tableclothe too :) :)
