Are there any deals right now for satellite radios and service? We havent had a contract for one before but my husband is wanting one.

Thanks for any help!
Kim

We have had XM for 8 years or so, and as far as I know, there is no contract. You purchase the radio, then the monthly premium. If you prepay for a year, you get a better deal.

We use the Onyx in our car. I use an in-line FM modulator, and the sound is excellent. You have a choice of purchasing portable units, or your car may already have a stereo that is "XM or Sirius Ready". That means you would only need a permanent mounted tuner installed in your car.

Most newer cars come with radios that have XM or Sirius built into the radio, with a trial subscription. If you have one, you simply activate it and pay the monthly subscription.

Satellite radio is super hot so I doubt you will find a deal of any sort. I never have and I've been an XM subscriber for 12 years (I think, it's been so long). As the PP said, if you pre-pay for the year I think you get a better rate. We pay every 3 months because we just can't budget for an entire year up front like that. I also don't know if both XM & Sirus cost the same. I've been with XM always and chose them because I like their radio lineup better than Sirus's.

Hope this helps!

We have both. I have XM in my car and DH has Sirius in his. We both did a lifetime subcription. I think mine was 399 and his was 499. That is for the life of the automobile.

I found on retailmenot if you call 1 800 347 0600 and ask for the promotion for 1 year for 77.00, so I did, and had no problem. The only catch is that you are agreeing to automatically renew, but there is no contract and you can cancel at any time.

Sirius offers Al'cart programming, which gives you like 50 music and talk/news channels (no sports, no howard stern, no opera) for $6.99 / month. But they charge you an extra $1.00 per month for royalties for the music companies and taxes.

Not all radios support Al'acart programming, but we have it and love it on both radios (which cost us $18 / month)
