Alright, we've talked about favorite loops and favorite sites now let's talk about sites where you have been able to use your satellite receiver. Please, just those with roof mounted units, not you cheaters with portable dishes :lmao:. I know, there are preferred site with cable, which we usually stay on, but I need my Speed Channel and DW needs her HGTV. Oh, and we have to have a pet loop, but I think everyone would like to hear about other sites, too. We stayed on 542 this past April and there was a line of trees right behind us so we could not get a signal. :sad1: :teeth:

In other words you only want to hear from people who have huge coaches like your's and not from the average folk.

I don't think he meant it that way :) I think he just meant with a portable you can move it around and have a better chance of finding a signal. We have had both and I remember one time last fall at a local CG we had the portable set up 2 sites down from us to get a signal (luckily there weren't many people camping that weekend ;) )

To answer to O.P, at site 1807 we were able to get a signal with our roof mounted sat.

I also have a unit like yours. It's pot luck with the DSS and the trees.
This year I picked a tripod from camping world around $35. Check around almost everyone and has a extra dish somewhere just ask. Remember to take plenty of cable and set up MH in advance (run the cable in the rig) I installed my drop in the generator bay drivers side. Very easy to run from the DSS receiver straight drop down the left side just remember to reseal the cables.

I don't think that is what he meant. Portable gives you a little more flexibility. It doesn't take some huge coach to have a satellite on top.

Oh ok, lol, it just sounded like he was saying none of the non upper classers need apply. I saw those $2k units at Camping World and I've seen the kinds that fold down and are like the kind you put on a tripod but mount like the tv antenna already on the unit. Personally I like my tripod unit because you can find a signal if you do get under the trees. Unless something really big is on I don't bother to hook up the dish. It is fun to have though when Nascar is racing Saturday night and you want to catch some of the race.

I am an "average folk". It took a lot of years to work my way up to that coach, and a lot of overtime. You missed the laughing guy I guess. My last rig, a 5er, had a roof mounted dish, too. I was just looking for others who may have had some luck with their dish. When we stayed in '05 we had a site in the 1300 loop that our manual, roof mounted dish, on that 5er, got a signal fine. I believe the site ran north south and was open to the south so that made the difference.

Please accept my apology. I can completely understand the hard work it takes to get ahead. It did sound a little prejiduce at first. Sorry again.

Apology accepted. This is what I love about this board, and this subject area ( FW ) in particular, we are family and friends, always. :grouphug:

It is hit or miss I have been on site where it comes in just fine, I have been on site no luck and some site no signal at first moved the coach forward or back got it to stick and there has even been trips great signal at first but the wind started and lost it for the rest of the trip. I guest I’m trying to say don’t count on satellite from a fixed mount system at FW. GOOD LUCK
