Hi,
My husband and I are looking into buying DVC. When we went on our tour years ago our guide told us that we needed to be in Florida to purchase from Disney. Is this true of resale as well? We are thinking of buying resale into OKW? How did you do it?
Thanks in advance.
You can buy from a reseller from SK - check out one of the Disboards sponsors - The Timeshare Store - dvc-resales.com. They'll walk you through the process.
If you want to buy direct from Disney, you have to be in either the sales offices in Florida or California, because Disney has not registered to conduct timeshare sales and marketing activities in any Canadian province except Ontario.
The following is my opinion only having looked at buying resale and having chosen to purchase through Disney.
Pros of buying resale: somewhat cheaper price, can do the deal from home, don't have to spend cash on a room to go do the deal in Florida
Cons of buying resale: process is a lot longer than direct from Disney, if the price is too low Disney will exercise its Right of First Refusal and buy it instead of you and you have to start over with a new buyer, when the deal is closed it still takes a few weeks to get into Disney's system - when buying direct it takes hours/couple of days, many of the contracts for sale are "stripped" - the owner has used all of this year's points (and maybe next years) so you have to wait for your first trip, you have to pay closing costs (DVC charges a minimal closing cost)
If money is the primary concern, resale may be for you, just make sure you know the full cost including closing costs and pay attention to what points are available in what years for you.
