Hey all, just wondering if anyone has been shopping in Port Huron lately. I am planning on going this weekend, and was wondering how busy the border is. Between what times? Is there a better time to go in the morning? Earlier the better?
Thanks!!!

hi, from Paris. I was over, the beginning of July. Crossed on a Friday night, about an hour wait. Then DH and DD came over on the Saturday and it was lined up way before the toll booth. DD,s boyfriend went over a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning about 10:30, with the huge line up and getting surched, it was around 2:00. I think that the earlier the better. Remember that Mejhers is open 24 hours and the new Supper Walmart is too.

We just got back from a trip to Birch Run/Frankenmuth. This past Sunday afternoon, the wait was about 90 minutes US bound.

Use this website to check border wait times:
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html
(you have to add the "www")

Sunday about noon. Returned Tuesday at about 6 pm...only about 20 minute wait Canada bound.

The border entering the States has been awful. Lateley the wait during the day has been 2-3 hours. I work in Detroit and cross 3x per week. I just got home and people are out of their cars looking. If you need to cross...go early in the day!

Just looked at the site and it says the wait time today US bound at the Sarnia/Port Huron crossing is two and a half hours :scared: ... OMG ... we go on Sunday to Frankenmuth and I am crossing my fingers that it won't be that bad! We are leaving early, but probably won't hit the border until noon or 1 pm at the earliest. We have a five hour drive to get there ... anyone want to be in the car with my youngest dd if she has a meltdown??? :scared1:

Oh ... and we have passports, but I know we don't need them yet. Should we just bring our birth certificates or should we bring our passports?

Thanks for the info, we are planning on leaving early and getting there around 8am, and come back around noon or 1pm hope that will help.

We brought our passports. Surprisingly, the Canadian customs agent didn't even ask us for any sort of ID.

OT for KerriMC, where are you staying in Frankenmuth? We were at the Zehnder's(sp?) Splash Mountain and the kids had a great time, but we might try somewhere else next time.

Get over as early as you can on Sunday. It starts to back up early with people returning from the weekend. Bring your passport (I would bring your birth certificate too). I love Zehnders! We usually go before Christmas, hit the Christmas store! I live in Sarnia so it's only about 90 minutes from here. I rarely if ever get asked for Canadian id on our side. Probably a handful of times in the 16 yrs I've worked in the U.S.

Hello! When we go over to Frankenmuth we usually stay in Birch Run just outside of Frankenmuth itself. The hotels are more costly in Frankenmuth I find. We stay at the Holiday Inn Express on the other side of the highway from the Prime Outlet Mall and have always been happy. Our rate from Sunday to Thursday is $67.99, which I think is pretty good (last year it was $59.99). I always go to the Prime Outlet website and check the shop and stay codes for the area hotels. I quoted a code of PRM and the above is the Sun-Thurs rate. I don't know what weekend rates are.

I did look at the Zehnders Splash thing and it looks great, but I thought it was too expensive for us. My parents go with us, so it would mean two rooms and I didn't feel it would be worth it. I'd rather take a family trip of just me, dh, and two girls to Great Wolf Lodge later in the fall. They have a nice salt water pool at the Holiday Inn which my girls are happy with. They also have a really good morning breakfast included in the rate, so that saves us too.

We go into Frankenmuth for dinner at Zehnders one night. We always call ahead and make ressies that day because you just bypass the line then. I also registered for the birthday club through Zehnders, so they mail you a coupon to use for a free chicken dinner in the month of your b.day. My b.day is actually today, so we will use it when we go down :thumbsup2 They have wicked Strawberry Pie in August too!!! To die for and I'm not a big strawberry pie kind of person ... I usually like them fresh!

We also drive into Saginaw so that we can go to a Target. There is a nice Joanne's craft store up there too. As well, a Burlington Coat Factory and a Dollar Store (they are SO different in the states) ... the dollar store carries a lot of teacher stuff, so I always have to look and see!! There is also the Fashion Boulevard mall a bit further up from the TArget and they have a JC Penny's I like to check out. They also have a Bath and Body Works (the outlet in Birch Run wasn't great last year:confused3 ...hopefully better this year).

Anyways, I've gone on a bit long (surprise, surpise) ... we are excited to get away for a few days as are my girls. My oldest is going into grade one which is exciting!

Kerri
