Sarilas' O-fficial Pre-Trip Report (a.k.a. Vacation, Take TWO!) - Jan. 30-Feb. 8, '09

Get lots of rest, drink lots of fluids, and read lots of Edward! ;) I hope you feel better soon.

Oh no!! I hope you all are doing better!
On the bright side, better now than while on vacation! Last year my youngest broke out with chicken pox the day after we got home! I was so greatfull for the timing!:thumbsup2

I know you are all miserable now, but I just keep thinking this is going to make your trip FANTASTIC!!! Hopefully you all will now have it all out of the way!!! Take care sweetie!

Okay, mini update because I have zero energy for anything else. Bah. :faint:

Everyone is getting better- I'm the last one to catch the bug, naturally, so I'm taking care of myself and the few lingering sickies here. I really AM glad everyone's getting it out of their system before we go- I so don't want to think about the misery that would be four sick kids at Disney World... :scared:

Suitcases are out and slowly being filled! I'm putting away the kids' items that are Disney specific and because I'm very much a type B personality I'm not stressing on when the actual snapping shut of the cases is done.

I checked out Garden Grocer and figured out what we'd need as far as milk, breakfast goodies and diapers- what a joy it will be to just take what we need for the flight and have big boxes of diapers there waiting for us. Yeah! No lugging that around makes me happy.

We figured out that one of our hard sided suitcases fits inside one of our soft sided ones... so we're packing a suitcase inside a suitcase IF, after packing clothes and such it looks like we might need the space for bringing home souvenirs. :thumbsup2

I'm debating on buying a new camera for the trip- I really want to get the Canon Rebel XS and hand my point and shoot down to one of the older kids. I need to let the angel and the devil on my shoulders debate over whether or not I can justify a nearly $600 expense right before we go on vacation, even though the pictures would SO be worth it...

I got an email from Disney reminding me about Photopass! I still need to preorder that, but from what I remember I really shouldn't do it till just before we leave, is that right? And someone out there might be able to clarify something for me; I thought that when you handed the photographers your photopass card that the pics would be online and waiting for you when you got home, but I could have sworn I've read a couple of TR's in the past where people said they lost pics because they didn't view them that day at a kiosk or something? Am I confusing things? (Please say I'm confusing things. Lie to me.)

Okay, my brain is going to explode and take my red nose with it. I think I'm on the mend so hopefully I can at least devote myself to this PTR adequately the week before we go.

Hey, hon. Glad to hear everyone's getting better.

On the whole photopass thing. I can't speak highly enough of pre-ordering the CD. For me, totally, totally worth it. However, they did lose on set of photos that I was bummed about. It didn't occur to me until after I had been staring at them at home, edited, cropped, added happy little Disney graphics and ordered the CD that oops, these particular set of photos in front of Spaceship Earth were missing.

And they were really, really gone. Which was a huge bummer. In our case, it had nothing to do with not viewing them during our trip, although you can certainly stop at a kiosk at any time and do that. It was simply a camera malfunction. Big bummer. Oh well. That photo lives in my memory anyway. :goodvibes

Thank you all for the good thoughts and well wishes! I'm sick as a dog, y'all. I'm going to do my darndest to get on here tomorrow and post an update but the entire household, all six of us, are sick. I've been curled up in bed with Twilight most of the time... poor me. ;)

I'm also been reading those. Although, I'm actually into the third book- Eclipse. Soo.. I'm trying to slow down and not read as much because then I just have Breaking Dawn.. and have to wait forever for New Moon movie to come out.. soo.. I'm bracing myself! hehe Although, I'm back in school now and I'm really busy so I don't have much time to read for my enjoyment.. I can't even get myself to post to ptr.. for goodness sake!! hehe :goodvibes

Oh, how I wish I had a Type B personality...

I have never looked at any of our PP until we got back home and none of them have ever been lost. I do tend to get a new card everyday though. I wouldn't think that would make a difference though.

Glad to hear that everyone is on the mend.

I had one problem with photopass and that was that they didn't add one of the special graphics onto one of our pictures. I emailed the customer service email address on the Photopass site and they had fixed by the next morning. :thumbsup2

I'm mentally preparing myself for the probability that I may not end up with every photo taken... so that when I come home and they're all there I can be ecstatic!

I keep reading the books over and over... I had been stealing them from my son's room but I've just gone ahead and bought my own set. :rotfl: What are you going to school for? My DH just went back as well, in his final year for his Bachelor. He's SO over the whole school thing by now. ;)

I always thought it would be nice to be a type A, to always have everything organized and in order. Organized chaos is my friend, instead. :rotfl:

I hadn't thought about getting a new card everyday- that's a great idea though what with our having so many days to deal with too.

Glad to hear that everyone is on the mend.

Yes, I think we'll all survive the Great Cold Debacle '09. ;)

I remember you talking about the graphics issue- it's good to know customer service can fix stuff like that! I don't know that I would have even thought to contact them in that situation. I'd probably just assume it was gone for good.

Okay, not much to add today but I am remiss in my posting of countdown trivia, so...

Happy 7 days till Disney!

Pirates of the Caribbean in WDW opened 7 years to the day after Walt’s death.

8 elevators run simultaneously on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

When you enter the main building in the China pavilion, look for the 9 stones embedded into the floor - this exact number of stones was placed here, as the Chinese consider 9 to be a lucky number.

For 18 months, 10 Disney artists and three Imagineers labored to sculpt the 325 animals on the Tree of Life. Due to the short amount of time it would take for the plaster to harden, each artist had only between six and ten hours total to intricately carve and create the final image.

Splash Mountain’s log ride is an 11 minute tour through the briar patch.

Representing the "Spirits of America" are 12 life-sized statues on either sides of the American Adventure theater. The 12 SPIRITS located inside the American Adventure Theatre: Adventure (Seaman), Compassion (Doctor), Discovery (Mountain Man), Freedom (Pilgrim), Heritage (American Indian), Independence (Colonial Soldier), Individualism (Cowboy), Innovation (Scientist), Knowledge (Teacher), Pioneering (Aviator), Self-reliance (Farmer), Tomorrow (Woman and Child)

13 intricately carved, winged gargoyles appear on the outside of the castle.

At Toy Story Mania! every guest gets to experience life at the size of a toy. So in Andy's room, a 5 foot 6 inch person will feel about 14" tall.

Each of the ride cars in the Universe of Energy pavilion weighs more than 15 tons

In the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Snow White is 16 years old.

One week from now we'll be in Orlando! (Or landing there anyway!) Hard to believe the time has finally come... everyone is so hyper and excited! My Kyle and Tatiana are trying to pack- Tanya's thrown everything into her suitcase- and I mean EVERYTHING. Non-working cell phone? Check. Stuffed animal she never really cared about? Check. Pants that don't fit? Check.

Guess what I'll be doing Thursday before we leave...

The kiddies still don't know the actual date of departure yet do they??

7 Days!! Oh, how the time flies by!! I am so excited for you. :goodvibes

I know, right? How can the trip possibly be here already?!

The kiddies still don't know the actual date of departure yet do they??

Oh man! They DO know! I totally need to create a new post about that one. And I've got it on video, sort of, if I can figure out how to upload and post it...

Lara, Check your inbox. Not sure if its here or Enchanted.

Checking now! (I'm SO behind...)

YAYY!! Happy 7 days!! i'm soo jealous! My parents are leaving tomorrow morning for a cruise.. and you are leaving in 7 days.. and mine is like 3 months away.. AHHH! hehehe

We definitely have to see the video. Things like that thrill us! :)

I've youtubed Disney Surprise Trip and watched several total strangers surprise their kids with trips, and it's awesome, even though I don't know them!

I've seen some of those YouTube videos- the reaction here was much more tame, albeit open mouth and slack jawed. :rotfl:

A hint to why the news was broken early: Lexi's reach far exceeded what I'd anticipated it would be...

Hey, gang! Three days and counting!

Yesterday my wonderful, fabulous, loving husband gave me the BEST surprise... he bought me THIS!

Nikon2.jpg
Nikon3.jpg

My new Nikon D40! He even got me two lenses: The 18-55 and the 55-200! So of course now I'm trying to figure out whether or not I need to carry my Baggallini AND a camera bag into the parks... but I love it! I've spent the last two days reading manuals and learning tips and tricks for the camera. I won't be an expert in three days time but I think I'll have figured out enough to get some awesome shots! (At least I hope!)

Also, I just pre-purchased our Photopass CD! I couldn't wait any longer, and frankly I'm afraid I'll forget before we leave! My brain is like Swiss cheese these days... too many things feel like they're slipping through the cracks!

I should have a new update tomorrow- DH has my OLD camera (I love saying that) with some pictures I took to update this thread... that I never got around to uploading.) I'll see if I can't start tying off all the loose ends tomorrow!

THREE DAYS! :faint:
