Looks like most AKL people get moved to SSR, so I am trying to learn more about it.

I've looked at all the photos and the resort map, but I still have a couple questions:

First, is the self-parking pretty good? Is it easy to get to after the guard stand, on the day I check in? What about later in the stay with the walk from self-parking to the rooms can that be really really far depending on room?

At a DVC like SSR, can you still check in early in the morning and get a key, so you can call for room number later?

Finally, which buildings might one ask for, to have less walking to parking? Or is it not too bad of a situation to have to bother?

Thanks

Hint...you probably will get better info/answers over at the DVC boards..they are a wealth of information:)
Your room location will make a differance..its a large resort..good luck!

I'm pretty sure that the parking is in front of each building.....

I was in congress park.....i had to walk through parking lot
to get to my building.....

I would request Congress park if you want to be within
walking distance of DTD....nice quiet pool and playground....

The springs....is near main pool and food court and checkin....

The Grandstand is the newest.....everyone seems to like it....
themed pool and I think playground...
Movies by the pool at night....

Paddocks....Quiet....quiet pool ...playground....

The Carosel......least requested area.....far from everything.....
BUT...you will have a car.....so can drive if you want....

Go to DVC boards....there is a SSR lovers thread....
lots of valuable info....
Enjoy....

SSR is a condo-style DVC resort; parking is right by your building. There's no central self-parking lot.

The DVC resorts work just like the rest of the Disney resorts. You can check in early and get your key, charge purchases to your room, etc.

Not to worry, every building is close to parking. When I stayed at SSR, I asked to be close to Artists Palette, and they put me in The Springs. That was a great location, super-close to the pool and food. The bus stop was just outside my room.

Check-in time is after 4:00 pm
Check-out time is 11:00 am

It's best to get to SSR in the morning for check-in, even if they don't have a room available. You'll have a better chance of getting the location you want.

The busiest check-in day for DVC is Sunday. If you must check-in on Sunday, be sure to do it early.

If you are driving, there is another entrance to SSR (you'll need your room ID to open the gate, though) near the Marketplace at DTD and the Fire Station.

I was looking at Google Maps, and I noticed that! I thought hum I wonder if any guest can use that. I guess so. Great.

Anyone can exit that way, only resort guests with ID can enter that way.

Every building group has its own parking. If you request The Springs or the new area, Grandstand, you will have the shortest walk to the main buildings area. If you are not that close, you can drive to there and park around back where there is a large general parking lot.

The main building complex is where the main pool, restaurant, counter service store and lobby are located. The community hall is there too (games, TV, activities, bike rentals, etc.)

Enjoy, it's a nice place!

Foyer area design is a nice addition, it really opens up the entrance:
