Hi everyone! I am currently in graudate school, and I am about to begin a paper on Disney's marketing of Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. I know you all are Disney experts, so I thought I would ask if anyone has any tips on where I could find good information. Specifically, does anyone know when Disney first started selling SSR and what promotion they used? Any information would be most helpful! Thanks in advance!

SSR opened in May 2004. I believe sales started sometime after Beach Club sold out (perhaps August 2003). Can't remember off hand the initial sales incentive, but it was x$ off per point, with a minimum of 100 points.

SSR presales did begin when BCV sold out in summer, 2003 (I agree with John - July/August sounds right). The price was $89 per point, with an incentive of $10 for new purchases of 150 or more points and 100 points or more for existing members. There have been a couple of price increases since with another rumored in March- when we may see the price rise over $100 per point.

BCV opened in July 2002 and was sold out about a year later.

You might want to contact DVC directly and at least get the current marketing information. You can call 1-800-800-9100 and request the free video and information packet.

You should do a project on the marketing genuis that put the package billboard up at Bonnet Creek that says "What is coming soon". The thread discussing it has had over 40000 hits and it turns out it was probably just a marketing gimick to get people talking about DVC.

I bought in Mid August of 2003. At that time my guide said that BCV had just finished that week. I can't remember what I paid. I think 78.00 wth the incentives and got the extra year of points. I wanna say 83.00 a pt. and 5.00 off. That is just a guess.

We bought only a few months later at SSR (presale), the price was $79 ($89 a pt and $10 off). It came without any points (similar to a stripped resale contract). Conciergekelly, with the extra year of points, you did much better than we did!! :thumbsup2

We bought 150 points in February 2004. The incentive then was either $79.00 per point (after a $10 pp discount) which would cost $11,850 OR $84.00 per point with a bonus 150 points for $12,600. We took the bonus 150 points. I'm not sure if we chose the right incentive but I can say that my sister did the same thing and rented her extra points for $1,500 She deducted that from the 12,600 bringing it down to $11,100 and now figures she paid $74.33 per point. Is this faulty reasoning? It sounded right to me but numbers have never been my strong suit.

I am not sure but the extra points could have to do with the use year. It was December. So we got December 2003 points. We weren't able to use them until May of the next year. Like I said we must have been one of the first ones because they had just changed over from BCV that week. :woohoo:

As I mentioned before I'm no math whiz but do you find that the bonus points have made the whole point management thing harder. I think I would have a much easier time understanding the whole thing if I wasn't always a year behind, if you know what I mean.

I haven't had a problem lately because I am in borrow mode. :teeth: I am using most of Dec. 2006 points this summer. There is no way to manage what I don't have. :lmao: I know what you mean. Before this year it was a bit confusing. I don't think I'll be caught up any time soon. I have no control. :goodvibes

Yes, I think it had everything to do with the December 2003 use year. My use year was February 2004, so I received points only for 2004 and SSR did not open till May of 2004. I thought you bought BCV at the end, not SSR in the very beginning when I read your post. But trust me, you still got a sweet deal! :thumbsup2

You definately did better taking the bonus points. Your sister was correct as well. The value was better! :thumbsup2
