Saratoga Springs...need ADVICE

Hello, All.
I've been reading the forums...but just registered.
I am thinking about buying into the DVC any day now (will take the SSR model tour on Monday). I love the location of the BCV and BWV (close to Epcot - my favorite)...but I am liking the idea of the SSR as more of a "secluded resort" with spa, etc.
Can anyone tell me the benefits of getting in on the DVC on the ground floor? I realize I can save $$$ by buying resale at other resorts, and I don't want that hanging over my head if I make a direct DVC purchase.
I suppose I just want some support in the SSR decision (negatives are welcome as well).
Any thoughts?

I don't know if I'd consider SSR a "secluded" resort; it sits directly across the lake from Downtown Disney. While not walkable to Epcot or the Studios (which is a heck of a walk anyhow), it seems like it would also be a great location, esp. if you like shopping/nightlife.

Because of the length of ownership is greater than the already existing DVC, I'd be inclined to buy SSR and try to change into the other DVC resorts, which, admittedly, will be difficult to do at certain times of year, such as VWL during December, but that's something all DVCers who don't own there encounter.

I think you need to make your purchase by which resort you want as your home resort. Whether its through Disney or a resale. We just bought into SSR because its secluded- new-and loved the models of the rooms they showed us on our tour.

I think certain sections of SSR will be secluded while others will be very much in the front and center of the DD action. The existing buildings are very close to DD but it appears other buildings will be more set back and secluded.
If you are young enough for the extra 12 years to matter, this is a very big factor to consider.
However the biggest factor to consider is to buy where you want to stay.

I had an unbiased opinion when I bought SSR. I hadn't been to any of the other DVC resorts so I didn't feel a pull to any of them. I think I would really like VWL too - maybe an add on some day - that would be great!

I all ready feel like SSR is home - I've seen the model, and loved it, I stared at it accross the lake, and loved it, and I can't wait until DECEMBER so I can STAY THERE!

DW and I bought into SSR last fall, and I understand what you mean. It seems like it will be less a 'nicer hotel' and more of a sprawling resort, separated a bit more from the hustle and bustle - sort of how I feel about VWL. And the Spa will add a nice feel to the place.

And as for being "close" to DTD, I'll say one thing: we stayed at the Grand Californian at DL a few years ago - and THAT'S a resort in the middle of things! SSR appears to have a decent separation from DTD - even more so when you move from Bldgs 1-4 to the Community Center and 5-12.

As for buying in on the ground floor: only two things come to mind. You get to use the full 50 years, and the price per point may go up over time.

I think SSR looks like it will be a lovely place, with some areas of it a little more "happening" due to their proximity and view of DD, and some areas of it a little more secluded.

If you don't have a particular "draw" to one of the other areas(ie-BCV/BWV for their proximity to MGM and Epcot or VWL for its proximity to MK or OKW for it's ability to park in front of your unit or because of the Key West feel, then I'd say buy at SSR, get whatever special points offer they're doing and an extra 12 years on your contract.

By all means tour and see what is best for you. However, I'd never buy SSR with the idea of staying mostly at BCV or BWV. The extra length isn't worth the hassle and risk. If you want SSR, buy there. If you want the others, buy there. While you may be able to use points for most options at the 7 month window, there are certain unit types (BW view and standard view) and times of the year where you'll never get in.

I see SSR as somewhat of a secluded resort in that it is not near a major park. I personally don't like the location overall but I'm sure it'll be nice when up and running and that many will enjoy it.
