I am a DVC member at Saratoga Springs. I wish that I would have known this information before I bought into the Vacation Club. I feel like they weren’t honest with me about the property and did not disclose this type of information. The fact that they were trying to cover up the violations is scary. And, that they are still able to put guests in those rooms is concerning. I just called Saratoga Springs about our upcoming trip. I explained my safety concern for my family and they said that they CANNOT tell me which are the safe buildings on their property. This is crazy - I am part owner and I don’t have the right to know about the property!!!!!!!!! They told me to email Guest Services with my concerns.

Not only is it a physical safety concern, but if it is true that they did try to cover it up, I would lose all trust in Disney with their timeshares. If they would do this, what else would they do or have already done?

As a fellow owner at SSR I think we need to be careful to not overreact to an alegation made by a contractor who is currently in litigation with DVC.

To put things in perspective; any knowledgeable fire inspector can walk through any multi-family building or hotel and find numerous "fire code" violations". Everything from blocked exits, propped open fire doors, electrical code violations to fire extinguishers that are past due for inspection.

The reality is that a building without any existing fire code violations is a rare thing. If we all refused to to say at a resort with code violations I'm afraid we would not be staying at Disney, or anywhere else for that matter. Does that mean we should never leave the safety of our own home? Is the severity of the violations and how management reacts to those violations that determines how safe a building is.

I agree, I think this is basically true. But it's rare (or should be rare) that a wood framed multi family building would not have fire rated mechanical shafts, which is what the court docs allege. That's a whole other level than expired FEs or other typical violations. But also I suspect that the contractor was directed to fix them, and FAM just refused to pay.
