Hi every one. We are debating where to stay because we like the idea of a one bedroom villa. SS has the best price but having stayed there before I know how brutal the bus rides are. Does anyone ever rent a car and drive to the parks? Do you have to pay for parking if you are a resort guest? Is it worth it? Just wondering because I have only been to Disney once, SS was new then, but we didn't have a car so always had the long bus ride and waits.

You do not have to pay for parking if you are a resort guest. We have always used the buses at WDW but drove on our last day to Epcot. It was very easy. We arrived about 45 minutes before park opening and parked on the front row. Walked in instead of riding the tram. I wouldn't drive to MK though. It doesn't really save time since you have to park at the TTC and take the ferry or monorail over.

We stayed at SSR but we were in a THV, so we definitely needed our own car. I've read mixed reviews about the SSR buses, but that's mainly because there are so many internal stops.

You might consider OKW as well, as the price should be comparable and the 1bdrms are HUGE. We didn't use the bus much (we had a car, plus we weren't doing many Disney parks) but the couple of times we did use it we didn't have any issues. We were in the Turtle Pond area, so we'd just walk to the main bus stop instead of using the internal bus.

One of the benefits of SSR and OKW is that you can park right at your room, so yes, many people do have cars. You can make do without one, but they can certainly give you more flexibility.
