we sold our saratoga points sometime ago, so I can't tell you how to run your place. But I was really surprised to learn today that the ssr owners voted last year to have channel 96 (the cartoon loop) taken off the tv. The ssr cm who told me that today said the members decided that because their kids wanted to stay in and watch tv rather than go out and do stuff. He was surprised that we still had it at wlv & bcv, at first he said "exactly" it was only the membership resorts, but when i reminded him that bcv was a dvc he said that it must have only been the ssr and okw members, but he was certain that the members had decided that last year. I am glad we didn't decide that at wlv or bcv, and I was surprised to learn that you all decided that at ssr, but different strokes I guess.

I'm a SSR owner and have no idea about this. I'm not sure you're getting the right info. I didn't vote for anything...

I never heard of such a vote at OKW. I do know that the available channels have changed from time to time.

I'm an SSR owner and I didn't vote for that channel to be taken off.

That channel pretty much shows the same cartoons over and over from my experience. Laaambert, the sheepish lion comes to mind. I remember that one playing over and over.

Ditto.
I'm an SSR owner, and didn't vote for any change, nor did I ever hear of a vote being taken.

Maybe that channel only shows up at the resorts that are attached to the Disney hotels? I do remember that there were only certain resorts where we could pull that channel.

It wasn't at AKLV a few weeks ago in Jambo or Kidani.

I can't imagine that DVC would put TV channels to a vote. I'm an SSR owner also and have never been asked to vote on this or anything else for that matter. The CM probably didn't know what the reason was and blamed it on the ownership. :confused3

this was "Rusty" at ssr, said it was decided on by the members. maybe it was at one of those members meetings or something

by the way I don't think some of you are getting my sarcasm, I knew that was a crock as he was saying it - I just thought some might be interested in hearing that excuse.

I guess if they don't know the real answer, it's better to make up something that "sounds" somewhat plausible. :rotfl:

Maybe different resorts just get different main cable TV feeds :confused3

To be honest I've never even watched TV when I've been there. Other than check out the park schedules and special happenings. Too much else to do! :happytv:

Wake up, people! There is NO vote, lol! Members don't have voting rights in anything related to dvc. Do you really think Disney is going to ask us about tv channels???? :rotfl::confused3

Whatever the original poster heard was undoubtedly a made-up story, which he/she unfortunately took as truth despite it being so incredulous. Kids were refusing to leave the room because of the fabulous cartoons??? Yeah, right - but I don't doubt there are some parents who let their kids rule the roost like that. There's a very simply solution - don't turn the tv on in the first place! :rotfl2:

#1 They have TV at WDW? Who has time for that?

#2 If a parent doesn't want their kid to watch TV instead of getting out to the parks, all they need to do is turn the TV off. It works every time. It sounds like Rusty likes to tell stories.

Disney TV sucks. I bring a laptop, AV cable and use a Slingbox account if I want real TV offerings (from home).

But I really don't like watching TV on vacation. I do enough of that at home when I "wish" I was on vacation.

I did hook up my WDTV media player and my digitized movie library though. I'd play a different movie every night (usually whatever I missed at the pool) and fell asleep to it. All week, I managed only half hour for each movie. I used the auto-timer to shut the TV off.

And yeah, I've known several kids who would easily drop 3-4 hours on TV or video games in lieu of the parks. They're usually found in Community Hall while their parents enjoy sun by the pool. Can make for a more peaceful and cheaper vacation.

IMHO, SSR is the kind of resort that can make you forget the parks. (Why did I leave today? WHY?!)

The only channel I remember playing at Disney is the one that loops over and over and over and over and over and over again. It is that one with that overly perky woman whose voice and image were burned into my brain for months after my last trip.

From what I'm reading the OP didn't believe it either. He was being "sarcastic". I think it's pretty sad that the CMs have to lie and blame things that are changed or eliminated on us members. Shame on them. As for the Tv our 4 year old grandson loves to watch the cartoons and Disney info films while we adults finish getting ready for the parks. I do think he will miss them.

I'm also a ss owner and was never aware of any voting taking place. I'm not sure who or how members were notified, or how they voted, but I was not included in any such sorts!

nope, no memory of that here either. can't imagine that they would put a tv channel to a vote. :confused3
