Just keep in mind that the primary difference your home resort makes is the 11-month booking window.
The 11-month booking window is very important if you want specific accommodations (GV's, THV, etc) or you want to book a specific resort during one of the peak periods. For all resorts, peak periods are from Thanksgiving to New Years, spring break, Easter week, etc. For the Epcot resorts, F&W is also a peak period.
The 11-month window, of course, ASSUMES that you can usually book vacations more than seven months in advance. If you typically can't book that far out (and a lot of people can't plan vacations that far ahead), home resort really doesn't matter that much.
