I just got off the phone with Byron, my sales guide. I did not want to buy until he told me that with my December use year, I would get 2003's December points, with $10 off, plus I don't have to pay any dues until May of 2004, pretty much only half year's dues.

It sounds like a great deal for being $79 with both 2003 and 2004's pts, half of 2004's dues and have an additional 12 years.

What is wrong with my thinking?

I've been wondering about this. I can see you definitely saving on dues that don't have to be paid for Dec - Apr. And it's nice not having to pay the bill until next May.

But while you get points in December 2003 do you really end up with more points than say a person with a Feb use year.

For example, say you have 150 points for December 2003. In December 2004 you get another 150; in Dec 2005 another 150 and so on. I would guess that you will get 150 points a total of 50 times. The person who has a Feb user year gets his first 150 points in Feb 2004, and then the next in Feb 2005 and so on. I would assume he also gets his 150 points 50 times.

Or will be person with the December use year actually get his points one more time than everyone else?

I know what you are saying, but don't know the answer. I would think I get one extra year, but not sure.

However, it does seem that I would at least save the dues for 2003's points at least.

i not sure about this but i am thinking if you buy this year 2003 you get the 50 wonderful magical years. if you buy in 2004 you get the same wonderful and magical 49 years, if you buy 2005 you still get the same but for only 48 years and so on, so on....

or is it basically 2003 points are freebies(well nothing is really free) if you buy in 2003, plus 50 years starting 2004, and if you buy 2004 you just get 50 years, and in 2005 you get 49 years, and so on, soon....

hmmm good question, but i think i would buy in 2003 its a hard deal not to pass up especially the $$ per point;)

I'm thinking it's more like a 'fiscal' year than a calendar year. Buying in the first year is December 2003 thru November 2004. Buying in the second year would be December 2004 thru November 2005. And so on.

Otherwise, I would think all existing member who want to do addons would feel a little slighted - unless of course they already have a December use year.

I asked my guide last week about this, and he said that a Dec YR would get you a extra year. A full 50 yrs. Other months only 49 yrs.

If all of this is true I don't think I like that it's only 49 year's worth of points unless you have a December use year. I mean, if it's advertised as a 'new 50 year membership'. If purchase now, before it is open, I should get 50 year's worth of points no matter what my use year is.

Hello,

My wife and I are considering becoming a DVC member and just received the Saratoga information in the mail. I'll be in WDW in January and thought about waiting after I look at different resorts, but also don't want to pass up on the $1500 credit offered if I buy before the end of October.

I guess my question is (well, one of many in my head) should I rush into this and buy now to get the discount or take my time and make sure I get the resort I think I'll like the most.

I would love to get the Villa's at the Wilderness Lodge, but I understand those are full through Disney. What about buying on my own to get Wilderness Lodge or should I stick with dealing with Disney directly.

I really want to become a DVC member, but this is somewhat confusing right now. I keep reading posts and learning...

Thanks....

Let me be the first (of many) to say: Buy where you want to stay the most. Many, many people have bought resales and had very, very good experiences.

I used to think that I will never buy SSR. But after coming back from Poly during Labor Day weekend, my kids (5 and 2) love their zero entry pool. If I am not mistaken, SSR has the only zero entry pool among all DVC resorts (can't remember what SAB has, but that one is way too deep at certain spots when compared to the one at the Poly).

I bought BCV right before they closed out sales this past Aug and lucked into a Dec 2002 use year. I applied the 02 points towards purchase price and have already confirmed a ressie on my 03 (and some of my 04) points. My guide also told me that the Dec use year was favorable because it did give me one more annual use of the points than someone in my situation buying into a spring use year.
What the heck - I wanted BCV badly!:D
