I will be in Florida next weekto see my mom who has cancer. She has never been to WDW. It looks like it is about 2 hours from Sarasota to WDW. Do I dare bring her on MLK day or the day after? She is in pretty good health right now, but that could change any day...... she doesn't think WDW is for her, but obviously, I disagree!

Do I dare try to bring her for the day? We would make it a day trip... am I crazy?

I suppose I should really think about whether she can do all the walking and such... we were thinking MK for the day..... most rides are melow, with the exception of the Mountains......

I will be making the same drive MLK weekend. MCO to Bradenton and back. I have made this drive quite a few times.
A few things to think about:
- It is a little over two hours IF there is light traffic, no accidents and no construction.
- It is almost all highway, so it will be a more comfortable drive.
- How would mom react to the suggestion of a scooter or wheelchair? You wouldn't have to worry about her getting tired from walking.
- What about staying overnight either the night before or the night you visit MK? If you stay the night before, she will be fresh when you get to the park.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your visit with your mother and have a safe trip.

We're going from Venice (where we live) to DW on MLK weekend - well, arriving this Thursday and departing Sunday. The ride is super easy - about an hour on I75 North, and then about an hour on I4 East.

I definitely agree with getting a room the night before and then driving home that night. That's what we do when we do day trips for the kids. That way they are fresh and ready to go, and then they sleep most of the way home (we keep PJs, wash cloths, and homemade baby wipe solution in the car to give them a quick clean up).

If you aren't insistent about staying on Disney property there are lots of great rates. I love the Embassy Suites at Lake Buena Vista. They have a free happy hour from 5-7 PM and and free cooked to order breakfasts in the morning - omelets, bacon, bagels, cereals, etc. It's only an 8 minute drive to DW and we've been able to stay there for $60 a night or so.

Definitely a good idea about getting a motorized cart. It might be a pain maneuvering if the crowds are big, but it will be nice for her to be able to sit and relax!

(Hi krissyh, I taught in Bradenton for 3 years before having the girls!)
