SAP+ ?

I feel like I think the same thing all the time, then I add the points in the “add-on” tool and almost choke at how far off it actually is. lol
You need that fancy Disney math I have in my Excel spreadsheet where I take credit card incentives and apply them to the most expensive direct contract that is "sold out" and neglect to add the same incentives to the most expensive resort in active sales because the total OOP isn't as high and I wouldn't qualify for as many :teacher:

I also take MB on the resort I already own, but exclude it on a new resort since I like having a surplus.

I am here all day if you need help spending/wasting money :rotfl:

yeah, recently realized I have too many points since I have a no Disney trip year in 2027 for other trips...and so now I'm scrambling to upgrade my January accommodations (for just my spouse and I this time) from a studio to 1 bedroom. Gotta spend these points before they expire! 🤭 But I love 1 BR+ too so I know I won't regret it. Except that upgrading my BCV studio to 1 bedroom is unlikely so I think we're going to have to go to BOARDWALK this time. Harumph. lol.

Just an FYI I am accepting BCV point donations 🥹

An upgrade! 😋

There is a lot of merit to this. My ex was more of a night owl, and I was more of an early bird. It was nice being able to be on our own schedules without worrying about distirbuing the other person.
Yep. Even with just 2 people in the room the upgrade to 1BR is amazing if you have the points. That is what my wife and I have been doing and she pretty much refuses to go back. If the 1BR is available that is what she wants.

It has also allowed us to give some close family members some open invitations to come if they want, we already have the room paid for and they can have the whole main area. One of her cousins has come twice and loved it, and now we have a larger group of 9 going in a 3BR GV in October. I can't wait to try out the 3BRs!

Between CCV and BLT, I think I have started to think that CCV may be the better SAP+ option just because it seems like BLT preferred rooms tend to have a lot more availability at the 7-month mark - so, you don't really NEED home resort priority there to stay there most of the time. CCV OTOH has a lot of room categories that are just tough to get at the 7-month mark and you may well not be able to get unless you own there so I think there is a bigger benefit to owning there. And, CCV has a longer contract but the price differences between CCV and BLT on the resale market, particularly with my UY (October), are not very different.
My tween+ teen kids bicker about sharing a bed even though they are same sex. They'll do it when my dad comes and we are "stuck" in a 5-person 1br. As a result, we always talk about trying CCV/BRV but chicken out because of the bed situation (plus for MK it's hard to say no to BLT and VGF)
Is anyone else like this or am I the only crazy Disney math person here? :teacher:

I look at SAP then say WELL SAP+ would be much better. I check the average sale price, make some lowball offers and say hmm I should just get my preferred VGF resale at that difference when the offers are rejected. Then I see current direct incentives and say it's not THAT much more money. Then I calculate 150 VGF points with Magical Beginnings and an idea that was $80 per point turns into $245 per point. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME 🙈
Nothing is wrong with you!

So... that is how I mathed my way into buying RIV direct:

Resale BLT (where we had grandfathered points already) was selling for about $15-25 pp less than the deal we had on RIV direct. At 200 points, that represents at most a $5000 savings. Was it worth $5000 to have a *new* EP/HS home resort, and completely unrestricted points, and not have to go through ROFR?

That is also how I decided we should add on at the VGF fire sale...

Trying to respond to @ClaraOswald below:
Every time I see you posting about coming to WDW (with VGC points) I keep thinking you need to just get a 150-ish direct contract at WDW that will give you 11 month availability at a resort where you wouldn't staying. And even though you've stayed at Wilderness Lodge/CCV/BRV maybe try something you couldn't get at DL, like Riviera with its skyliner, or Poly with its theming and boat transportation. (You'll be able to get something at BLT at 7 months so long as it's not July 4th, Xmas or New Year's you're trying to get. BLT direct is too expensive.)

We have no direct points but I still throw around the idea of getting some because with incentives, it's not THAT much more. (And it's actually less than if we buy more VGC points....)

We only used VGC points at WDW for our first trip there. We have 200 resale at BRV now. I don't know if I'd want direct at WDW over DLR since we plan to go to DLR more (we prefer it to WDW.)

As for Poly or Riviera, those two resorts are way at the bottom for me. I don't really have any desire to stay at either.
