Every year, DS's school's 8th grade does this little fundraiser for their graduation party. They set up part of the art lab like a store and sell Christmas gifts for $5 or less to the younger kids.

A "wish list" was sent home for us to fill out and send back with money. So we gave DS (6 years old) $15 and wrote that he can spend $5 a piece on me, DH and himself.

I'm dying to see what he picks out for hubby and me. Something tells me I'm in for a good laugh!

My DD did that in preschool last year.

She came home with a multipurpose screwdriver, and a well, interesting silver and pink pin....

A friend's son came home with a tiny toy bubblegum machine for her one year.

We laughed our heads off over it.

Well, that is interesting..

A local mall in NJ used to do this (either Moorestown or Cherry Hill), and they had a little shop set up for the kids.

I remember going down there and buying stuff... this was mid 70's though

My kids' school used to have one. It was great fun for the kids to get to go shopping by themselves.
I worked in it a couple years and it was so fun watching them pick out things for their family members.

And DH still has the "Dad's Workshop" sign over his shop door that DS bought for him 12 or 13 years ago!!

Great memeories!! :)

We did this at my kids elementary school when I was president of Fundraising. Four years in a row I "shopped" for the inventory, set it up, and organized 800 kids to go through it. We were able to build a playground with the profits. We also made sure every child was able to buy a few things even if they had little or no money. The teachers would let me know who didn't have any money and I would give them a few dollars to give to the child. My kids still talk about it today. They just loved it, and so did their classmates. The cutest are the Kindergarteners! Volunteers were there to guide them in their purchases, but if a child really wanted to buy Mommy a Match Box car we didn't interfere. ;)

Ahh, I still have my mom necklace and Dad got a ring with an Eagle on it that was 8 sizes too small! ....LOL...

can't wait to hear what you get!....

Our Primary school used to do it and the gifts were $1.00. The gifts we received we so funny. He bought me a snow man necklace with bubble lotion in side. DH got a screw driver that you can change the heads. We use it still. He also got gifts for his teenage brothers (he was 5). One was ok but I don't remember what it was. The oldest received a scrub brush. He said he brother was alway neat and clean and this would help. We rolled on the floor laughing when DS son opened his scrub brush.

Our school does this too, and I have worked it for the past 4 years. It's so cute to see how excited the kids are. I don't think we made much money though, because I always let the kids get their gifts even if they didn't have enough money. It just broke my heart to tell them no. Our PTO thought of it more as a convenience for the kids rather than a fundraiser, which was nice.

My dd came home from one of these workshops with an adoreable pin for me one year. I still treasure that pin even though it's old and tarnished now. :D
