I will be arriving in Santa Monica on May 14th and dont need a car that day, except I would like to go to hollywood and check out a movie premier. any idea if there are cheap shuttles or anything like that, that I could take to get out there? I will be staying at the sheraton delfina.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am renting a car on the 15th, but it will cost me an extra $85 for me to have a car that 1 day on the 14th.

thanks.

Where in Hollywood is the movie Premier?

You could take the bus along Santa Monica
Blvd. The Number 704 will pick you up on
2nd Street (just a few block from your hotel)
and you can get off at Highland in the heart
of Hollywood.

You could also check with the hotel to see if
they offer a shuttle service. I'm thinking the
round trip taxi fare will be just about the same
as an extra day car rental.

very good to know. is the bus-ing pretty simple around there? the premier is at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

From your hotel to the Chinese is one bus ride
along Santa Monica Blvd. There will be a walk
from each end, but not a long one. The 407 is a
"Rapid" - meaning it makes stops only at major
intersections. There is the 4 that makes more
local stops but runs every 20 minutes until 1AM.

Both pick up very near your hotel and stop at La
Brea and Highland - both stops are just a few
blocks from the Chinese.

There's another easy way on the bus, and you get a nice tour from a window seat.

Just ask at your hotel for directions on the Blue Bus to Westwood.(I think it's 75c) Get off on Westwood Boulevard near Burger King, and then (on the same side of the street, near BKing) get on City Bus number 2 ($1.25) up to Hollywood. You'll be on Sunset Blvd, get off the bus at La Brea or Highland avenue...walk one block north (towards the mountains) and you'll be right next to the Chinese theatre.

First bus is about 12-14 minutes, and second bus is 20-25 minutes. Second bus goes through Bel Air, Beverly Hills, and on through the Sunset Strip.

Westwood, where you switch buses, is a nice neighborhood near UCLA with plenty of places to dine etc. You might want to stop here a while on your way back. One note about the ride back...when you leave the Chinese Theatre and walk a block down to Sunset Boulevard, you'll catch the #2 bus going west...but not all the #2 buses go all the way to UCLA. Make sure it says UCLA on the front , or ask the driver.
