can anyone tell me the best route to take from santa monica to DL on a tues morning? need to be at DL by 9:30 am to drop off a rental car. worried about traffic.

Here is my advice--

405 south to 22 east. Off on Harbor, east on Harbor to DL.

And, yes, the traffic will be evil!!

Cathy

thank you!
do you know about how long this will take? trying to figure out what time to leave santa monica.

Don't bet your money on this as I only drive in the afternoon traffic, but my guess is that it would take around 1-2 hours :scared1: I could very well be wrong!! But I know that it's a pretty good distance from Santa Monica to where you wanna be.

Since your time table is based on your car rental return--have you considered contacting the agency from whom you rented the car and ask if they allow a late check in for a fee?

yes, i did think about that. i will check to see what the fee is for late arrival. the 1-2 hours isn't that bad, really. i looked at google maps and they listed about the same time with traffic. we have young kids, so we will be up early anyway and excited to get to DL!
thanks everyone for all of the info!

That route is um ... interesting. I'm about 8 miles from Santa Monica, and have never taken the 22. I don't see Google or Yahoo suggesting it, either.
The problem I have with it is that this route maximizes the time on the 405.

I get on I-105 after a short jaunt on the 405 South, and then there are several ways to get to DLR - involving some combination of I-5, I-605, and CA-91

well, yes, google suggested three different ways.
and then i just manually put in the route suggested above to see the time and miles.
so, basically, not sure which way to go!

This is the same route I use - it's basically the fastest.

405 south - 105 east - 605 south - 91 east - 5 south

If you have more than one in the car most of the way can be driven in the carpool lane & that will help, too.

405S-->105E-->110S-->91E-->5S

Carpool lanes pretty much the entire way. You'll be at Disneyland in less than an hour even with traffic, because you'll have carpool lanes.

thank you for the carpool lane tip!
love that lane!
we are preparing ourselves for traffic, but we are just excited to be heading to DL!!!!
thanks again for all of the help.

Just put together a super fun and exciting Disney playlist and they'll be entertained!!! I did that once for the 8 hour drive from Norcal to DL and I had about 6 hours worth of fantastic Disney tunes  The passengers in the car were excited at first...but then their excitement waned after about hour 4 :lmao: But I was the driver so I was in control of the music!!!! :woohoo:

Agreed with both of you - that's the route we take from LAX, without the 405 component.
