Santa Monica Hotels?

I am attending some training in LA for work in August and hoping to have my family join me afterwards and stay the weekend. I was thinking it would be really fun to stay in Santa Monica. I was looking at a few hotels and see that rates are pretty crazy at most of the decent hotels in the area.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel that is fairly close to the pier and good for families?

I would like to hear more on this as well. Right now I am booked at the Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica which is top rated on TripAdvisor, but very pricey, like you said all the good hotels in the area are. I guess space is a premium in SM and to get the space, you have to pay, otherwise stay more inland towards West Hollywood, etc...

Hi - you could try the Doubletree, about four blocks back. We usually stay at the Georgian, and have also stayed at the Fairmont, but yhis time, we're thinking the doubletree might suit us.
