Took a field trip to Santa Clarita today... just to see what it was like. I decided to take a look at the (very closed) Magic Mountain. I’ve never been there and have never seen it. Looks like a lot of thrill rides, which aren’t really my thing. Also visited Vasquez Rock Park, which was really cool.

Vasquez Rocks looks beautiful. I just looked it up and it's 1.5 hours from my daughter's school. She might need to check it out in the spring (she's hoping to be abroad in the fall).

Very cool. Where does she hope to go in the fall?

That was fun to see the Magic Mountain picture! I haven't been there since 1996. I grew up going there on family vacations. We always did Magic Mountain on Monday, Universal Studios on Tuesday, Disneyland on Wednesday, Knott's Berry Farm on Thursday, Disneyland on Friday, and Disneyland again on Saturday. I have no idea how my parents kept that schedule with 6 kids. Anyway, my last day at Magic Mountain in 1996 was so hot and crowded. We were there from open to close and only got on 6 rides. I was so grumpy when we left. I haven't had a desire to return since.

She hopes to be in Turks and Caicos for a semester of marine based field study. Hopefully it happens. It was already cancelled once by the university (they did a blanket cancellation of all fall study abroad trips) but she petitioned and they agreed she could go. We're not making her flight reservations until it gets closer and she's already been informed by the program it will be different than normal because there won't be the community involvement there usually is with teaching locals how to swim and playing games. Different is better than nothing in her mind right now.

I love Magic Mountain! I took my son and our friend for 2 trips last year, June & October. Fright Fest in late September - Halloween is very fun! We have annual passes (we live in Phoenix and there's a water park here) and I hope to go again this fall.

I've never heard of that rock park, we might have to check it out!
