I am looking for a gift idea for my Ds who will be 9 right after Christmas. He is getting enought video games. I've read on the Dis a bit about Snap Circuit. Saw it on Amazon for like $46 including s&h.
Do your DS's love it??? I just don't want something that will be sitting in the closet going unused. TIA!

My son got this just today as an early Birthday present from his grandparents. He is about to turn 8. He played with it all evening long. He loved making all the different things and only had me help him on the first 2 he did. After that, he was making them all by himself. He got the SC-300 kit, which was rated for kids 8 and older. It came with 2 books that have over 300 different projects you can do.
I really like these and they seem to be made very well. I have now added the rover project to his wish list for Christmas and was thinking about adding the upgrade kit as well.

My DS-8 next week, has had the basic set for 2 years. He LOVES it. Plays with it. Loves to make things. If it were in my budget, I'd get one ofthe more advanced sets for him to build more.

My DS7 got one for xmas last year and just loves it. He got the SC300 as well. The components are really well constructed and hold up great to the less than gentle handing from the kid. As for if it will sit in your closet, does your DS like doing other kinds of building projects? I'd say if he likes legos, knex, erector and the like, this one should be a hit too.

I got my 9-year old nephew the 100 piece set and his 10-year old sister and my DD played with it too. Even the 16-year old tried it out. They really liked making all the things light up and spin .

You can't go wrong with Snap Circuits--those things even amaze me! My ds7 got the Jr set for his last birthday & love them. I'll be buying a set for my godson for Christmas as well. It's so hard to find something that both interests them & stimulates the mind as well--highly recommend Snap Circuits!

My son got the junior set last year when he was seven. He loves it and is getting another version this Christmas. It's a great toy!

My dd has snap circuits and she likes them. She's played with the set often.

the price dropped today on amazon to $41 and change. that is the lowest I have seen it for the 300 set. Im going to order it today for ds who is 8.

I just looked at my Amazon receipt. I got my nephew the 300 set and it was only $38.66 delivered. I bought it back on 11/19.

Snap circuits are one of those "best toys I've ever bought" toys. He plays with it continually, even a year later. There's always new things to make with it - or he'll re-do his faves. Highly recommend it!

DS8 got them last year for Christmas and LOVES them. He was actually running late for school today, was building in his room when he was supposed to be brushing his teeth. Awesome gift!

Thanks for the heads up on this toy! I just ordered it for DS9. He still plays with his Knex, Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys. I've never seen this one before....he's going to flip when he figures out what he can do with it.

Well, Santa brought the snap circuits....DS9 declared it "....better than video games...."

I bought these for my 10yo DS based on the recommendations here and they were one of his favorite Christmas gifts. He already has made many of the projects.
