I am looking for information regarding the resorts listed in the exchange section of the members guide book for the Sanibel Island area. Anyone with information concerning cleanthliness, proximity to the ocean, amenities, resort recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Soon after becoming a DVC member, I was on a vacation to Ft. Myers Beach. I was so excited at all the exchange opportunities I saw in my DVC materials, that I went and searched out every single Sanibel resort listed as an option. I was very favorably impressed. As I recall, every single one was right on the water. I would have readily stayed at any of them, based on what I could tell by looking around and talking with a few people staying at the various places. All were well-maintained and beautiful on the grounds, although I did not get in to see any rooms. It seems to me that my favorites were called Tortuga something and Casa something.

I did have Disney put out a search for me for any one of the Sanibel places. But I wasn't very optimistic, because unfortunately I was locked into traveling over Easter week. After waiting a few months, I changed plans and used my points to go to Hawaii instead. Maybe in the future I'll think about going to Sanibel on points when I can be more flexible about when I travel.

By the way, I also checked out the two options on Ft. Myers Beach. Both places were also right by the water, and seemed clean and well-kept. They did seem a little cramped on their land, and I seem to recall pretty small pools at both. I wasn't as favorably impressed as I was with the Sanibel places.

Hope this helps at least a little. Good luck as you pursue! :)

All of the Sanibel resorts are nice. I don't like the location of Lighthouse Condo because it is on the bay, not the gulf.(Although it is right across the street). I own at Hurricane House(which is my favorite, although there isn't a lot for kids there) and Plantation Beach Club at South Seas on Captiva. Tortuga is nice but if you like to shell the location isn't the best. Casa Ybel has beautiful grounds but some of the units are a little shabby and do not have washer/Dryers in them. I have never stayed at Sanibel Cottages but they are beautiful and in a good location.

I don't think you would go wrong with any on Sanibel/Captiva.
