Okay bear with me ... DH and I are not drinkers at all, but I saw they offered beer, wine and sangria at HDD. Since we're paying so much to eat there, I thought maybe we could try the sangria. Isn't it kind of like diluted wine with fruit in it? Anyone try it, is it good? And how much before it would "affect" our minds (we don't want to go that far!) Thanks.

Its very, very, very good! (Is a Sangria lush!) :wizard: :teeth: It doesn't taste strong like alcohol but it can be pretty pungent. However, I don't think a glass or two will really get you tipsy. Its when you start drinking pitchers of it (btw, they bring you pitchers of it!) that you get pretty gone!

As far as it being diluted.. well everyone makes it differently, and its usually red wine mixed with some sort of liquor (like rum, etc..) and then the fruit, so there's nothing really to dilute it.

I say try a glass. Its quite yummy. I start getting pretty tipsy after my fourth glass, but YMMV.

I'm also a HUUUGE lover of Sangria and I found that the sangria at Hoop Dee Doo made the meal worth it to me. Honestly, I couldn't stop drinking ( I'm not a lush, really :p ). If you aren't a drinker, then it may be good for you to try, many places have bad red wine, but when they turn it into a sangria it becomes bearable. I had sangria at hoop dee doo and spoodles and found them both to be pretty good. But don't expect it to be like juice, it is made with wine afterall :sunny:

Thanks, I think I will try it. I had seen a recipe for it somewhere and it was made with sparking water instead of liquor. Oh well, maybe a glass or two won't hurt!

Another vote for trying the Sangria! It definitely makes the jokes a LOT more funny!

Just be careful, after the first glass, you can no longer taste the alchol - but it's DEFINITELY still there!

And I would not recommend a fried-buffet type breakfast the next day!

Another big thumbs up for the sangria! We were only offered single glasses though, with refills, no pitcher for DH and myself!

Have a great time. We loved the HDDR! Wish we were doing it this year.

Does it taste like red wine? I hope not because I hate red wine and beer. So I might be into the soda with the kids..

It definitely does not taste like red wine. I don't like red wine but the sangria here is a hit with me. You can ask for a glass and if you don't like it, go onto the soda with the kids. It's an all inclusive dinner so you are not going to be paying anything extra for trying it.

had this last week and now I really wish I had more than one glass! Anyone have the recipe?

They are very good. Warning: they have a tendency to make the room spin...just sayin'.

I like the HDDR sangria. I am a drinker and three was plenty (half too much probably) to make me very tipsy.

OP: give it a shot. If you don't like it they will bring you soda or other beverage on the list, no problem. They just keep bringing whichever thing you choose, and you can mix and match.

We dined there on August 23rd; first timers. After reading the many positive reviews of the sangria, I encouraged my wife to try it, while I had the bud light.
DW found the sangira to be undrinkable; she said it was absolutely awful. And yes, she has previously enjoyed sangria. My bud light arrived at the table with an ice-cube in the glass. Although the food was good, we weren't impressed with the alcoholic beverages. :confused3

I thought I was going to be in the minority but a few others didn't like it either. While I enjoy sangria I did not like what was offered at HDDR. Next time I'm going with the Bud Light!

So funny to see myself on a thread from 2005 when I was but a wee disboards newbie. I didn't like the sangria as much the two times we have returned to HDDR since then. Maybe the recipe changed?

Now, on the rocks! :rotfl:

Thought a few people would get a kick out of seeing this thread resurrected When I googled HDDR Sangria of course the thread came up because all roads eventually load to disboards!

I also read that they changed the recipe so maybe it was better ( I am one of the people that enjoyed it). I tried to replicate my sangria experience at Kouzzina and that one was just a little too nouveau for my taste buds (had acai and pomegranate etc- I knew beforehand and still ordered it!).
