We are thinking of flying into Sanford Orlando airport and not renting a car. Does anyone know if there is transportation from this airport to Disney?

You can take a taxi, towncar or rent a car. I think Mears services them with a shuttle.

Plan on it being close to $100 each way plus tip if you take any type of livery transportation other than a shuttle-which will be over that if you've got more than two people I would think.

You could also rent a car.

I recall looking at a quote from a towncar company the first time I flew into Sanford, but I also remember going with the car rental because it was considerably cheaper. The airport has a website with information on ground transportation; I don't remember the URL, but a google search will find it.

Ya, I am thinking renting a car would be alot cheaper to. I thought I seen where there are actually rental places at Disney anyone know if that is true?

Alamo is at WDW. The Hilton and Palace in DTD both have rental places as well--Avis and Dollar maybe--but do'nt hold me to that.

Hello, thank you for replying to my message. What airlines fly into Sanford? I have not been able to find any.

Sanford is a lovely airport. It's international and there are a lot of flights from London/Scotland.

Transporation is a problem unless you rent a car. A towncar is $180 and to be honest, we just did it and while I would fly into/out of Sanford again, I would never do a towncar from there. I'd rent a car.

Sanford is a small airport landing national and international visitors to the Orlando area. It lands 3 million passengers compared to Orlando's 35 million. Allegiant Airline is the main domestic airline now landing at Sanford It is serviced by Taxis, car service and car rental companies. Mears shuttle does not pick up the domestic passengers. It does pick up international passengers on a pre pay basis.

There are companies that claim they are shuttle but they have to have a minimum of 4 or 5 passengers to pick you up at about $50.00 round trip. This is a way to make a few more bucks making you think that you have chosen the cheapest transportation.

The car service runs about $180.00 to $230.00 round trip to WDW and Port Canaveral. The distance to WDW is about 50 miles depending on the hotel you are registered at. The Port is a little farther, 60 miles.

The main advantage you gain is the direct flight from a smaller airport close to your home. The airline price is quite a bit cheaper also. They fly from about 15 different cities in the U.S. You can save a few bucks but will pay approximately $180.00 of that savings finding transportation to WDW. The transportation usually is directly to WDW in about an hour unless you stop for groceries. The flight times are not as convenient as landing OIA.

Their are many passengers who like the idea of leaving from their small airports on a flight directly to Sanford arriving 2 to 3 hours after take off.

The website for Orlando Sanford International Airport is:

http://www.orlandosanfordairport.com/

The website lists current airlines as well as ground transportation options. The airport is on the site of a former naval air station and thus has long runways that can (and does) land 747's. Allegiant is currently the only domestic scheduled carrier and Icelandair the only international scheduled carrier. Everything else is charter. You'll see a large variety of unknown (to Americans) airlines on the tarmac at SFB. The terminals are modern.

The airport is great for anyone visiting the northern suburbs of Orlando or even heading to Daytona. But the only practical way out of the airport to Disney is to rent a car.

I am sure you can get a rental car for between $200.00 and $450.00 per week, depending on the number of people you are trying to transport, from the Sanford airport. but is that really practical when you will be spending most of the time at Disney riding their transportation, leaving the rental car sitting in the parking lot.

The taxis and vehicle for hire companies offer, up to approximately 10 passengers, you direct rides to Disney at the small car rental rate. There are many cases where this type of transportation is faster, cheaper and easier to use. Family preferences would determine this. 90% of the passengers arriving Allegiant and the chartered flights in Sanford are headed to Disney, the International Drive area or the port for cruising.

The airport has one 10,000 foot east-west runway. Globespan Airline is one other international scheduled carrier operating in/out of the airport from Scotland. It is not a charter airline.

All we are needing is transportation back to Sanford when our trip is over and only for 2 people. sounds like most shuttles do not go from disney to sanford and the towncars or taxis are really expensive.

Rent a car for a day from a Disney location, drop it at Sanford.

i am about to book aj transportation to take us to and from sanford to disney. i am very curious as to why you would not use a shuttle service again, and which one did you use?
we just didn't want the hassle of renting a car. nor did we want to wait for a shuttle to fill up so we thought of a towncar type deal.
we arrive this saturday! i need to get this taken care of!!

We used Florida Town Car.

Getting picked up every every other car service was at the bottom of where you come out with name plates, not one with our name on it. I had to call and find out he was standing in a totally different spot. OK found him, we get in the car and my DH was sure he was on somehting, he was all over the road. We're discussing the pick up the next week, our flight home is 3:20 - he wants to pick us up at 10:30 in the morning... no way.... keeps telling us we'll have to leave that early becuase of traffic.. In the end we told him, that no way did we want to be picked up before 12:00 and if he didn't want to do it, we'd cancel the return trip. We are sure they pushed us up to pick us up so early becuase they had other people to pick up and drop off and that time worked best for them.

The reason we used a town car was because the only reasonable air I could get was out of Allentown Penna. (we live in NYC). It was still OK as we have family there so it did work out for us to drive there, leave our car with family and have family drop us off and then pick us up at the airport in PA. Originally I thought we'd be flying into Orlando and we'd use Magic Express so I never thought to rent a car. Because it was so late I couldn't get a cheap rent a car and while it was cheaper (slightly) to pay the $180 for a towncar, the stress of wondering if they were going to show to pick us up to bring us back to the airport and what time they were really going to show really turned us off. From now on my DH said, we'll pay whatver price it is to rent a car and not have to deal with a 3rd party.

Mary Ann, Can I ask how much it is for AJ's? I called a few today and it was between 100-120 that was why we were discusssing rental cars.

Florida Town Car was $180 plus my husband tipped $30 which I felt was more then he should have. I would not use them again.

i was about to book aj transportation, but edd gave me some very good information when i asked if anyone had used them and because of that we decided not to use them.
so i still don't have transportation and we arrive this saturday.
i really didn't want to mess with renting a car, but i can't seem to find a good shuttle service that goes to sanford.

Hannymom,

How many in your group. Shuttles will become more expensive if you have more than 4 in your group. There are web sites that will give you information about car service. The companies on the Orlandosanfordairport.com are pretty much in line with prices. Any one of them can get you to Disney and return you with no problem. Check this airport website out.

http://orlandosanfordairport.com/taxi_limo_shuttle.asp

If you wait to get a taxi you will pay premium as taxis meter $117.00 to WDW. Most of the companies listed as pre-arranged will do better than the taxi rate especially round trip. When you see the company name, click on (view site) to get a better idea of who you are dealing with.

Personally I don't think you want to wait on shuttle because shuttles don't just take you, they take others and sometimes in Sanford, because it is a smaller airport, the others don't get there for an hour or two later. That means you sit around for awhile waiting for the shuttle person to get what he needs to leave the airport.
