I always see so many discounts for car rentals at Orlando Intl. Prices keep going down, down or new coupons come out.
We are hoping to fly into Sanford next year. Do they get really good discounts on cars like Orlando does b/c they are such a large airport?
I am really hoping so!

It can vary, but my limited experience at SFB has been their discounts aren't usually as good as MCO. Less competition.

I've compared some cheaper flights into and/or out of SFB on Allegiant only to see any savings wiped out by higher car rental rates...I usually wind up at MCO for about the same, but have more flexibility with flight times, etc.

When we flew into Sanford last year I got a really good rate with Alamo. It was for a full size premium car and was only $120.60 (this price includes all taxes/fees) for a week (Sun - Sun). We really liked the airport, it was small and easy to get around. All the rental car lots were right there and we were able to choose the car we wanted from the lot. I recommend it if you can get a good deal on a flight. I typically reserve a car early (at a higher rate just to have something booked) and keep checking back for better rates (weekly at first then daily). You can always cancel and rebook right up to your trip as you find better rates / discount codes. It looks like I locked in on this rate exactly a week before our trip.

You really have to keep watching. I grabbed a good rate months ago and then kept checking daily. Register at hotwire for a rate drop alert. Then register for Thrifty Blue Chip, Alamo insiders, and click on the tabs for "Special." I just got a standard SUV for $50 more then the Full size $179, to $231.07.
Try FIX09 for SUV, if the web site doesn't work, call them.

If we fit in the full size I'll keep it, but the $231 for an Equanox was a gem of a find when they have been going over $50 a day.

We are flying into Sanford in January. I booked our 14 day rental last month and the prices have mostly just kept going up. Last week the prices almost TRIPLED and have stayed that way so far. I do check prices daily and am hoping that as our trip gets closer that the prices head back down and maybe I can find a coupon to use that goes into January. Right now we have a compact booked for 14 days for $231.XX all in. If I end up finding a better price, fine. If not, I am happy with that price.

ETA: Just for fun I went and looked at the rentals for our same dates out of MCO. The same exact rental would be $369 from there. Our flights would be double the price we paid with at least one stop going into MCO. We really like the small Sanford airport and the rental cars being so close.
