Sandestin Florida

Destin is a city in NW Fl.

Sandestin is a huge resort complex about 5 miles east of Destin. The land Sandestin sits on was originally of Walt Disney choices for a theme park.

I love the Sandestin resort. It is less crazy busy than the Destin area, and there are a variety of lodging and prices at the resort.

My DH's aunt & uncle used to own a unit in a condo in Sandestin that we stayed in a couple times. Sandestin is really nice - it's been many years since we've been there but I remember a really nice shopping/dining complex. DH's aunt & uncle sold their unit many years ago (no more free accomodations for us-boo!) and now we stay at a place in Crystal Beach.

We last visited Destin in June 2007 and we can't wait to get back. The white sand beaches and clear blue/green water are gorgeous!

I have never been to Destin before, someone said they liked Sandestin better. What is the difference?

I don't think Sandestin is it's own city, I think it is just a gated resort within Destin, FL. It has it's own shops and places to eat... it is very nice but the same beach per say as you would find in Destin.

Sandestin is a beautiful, gated resort near Destin. This is where we stay every time we go there. We had plans to go there at the end of July, but we've changed our plans because of the oil.

Sandestin has 2 sides to it...the beach side and the bay side. We typically stay on the bay side because it's cheaper, but we still have access to the beach.

You can go to Sandestin and never leave the resort. You have the beach, lots of activities, shopping and restaurants all on the resort.

Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Do you know why Walt Disney decided not to build there?

We love Sandestin, but we will not be going this year, as the oil has arrived and will be covering their beaches. They are already warning people not to get in the water.

Do you rent condo's or do they have hotels on the property? Where do you normally stay?

They have condos and hotels. As for hotels, we've stayed at the Hilton which is on the beach side. Very nice, but pricey. We've also stayed at the Bayside Inn which is on the bayside. We get a bay view so that you can still see water. We like it because it's quieter and not as pricey.

Now that we have kids though, we usually stay in a condo. Normally, we've booked the condo through Sandestin, but have found some great deals through VRBO. We've stayed at Fairways, Heron Walk, and Harbour Point and we've never been disappointed in our condo.
