When I was in Orlando last year I wore sandals most of the time walking around the parks ect which was great. Are sandals worn as much around Disneyland, Universal and California in general or would they look out of place?

Don't forget to put sunscreen on the top of your feet or you'll get a "weird pattern" on top like i did. ;)

Pete,
I wear sandals all the time and I bought a pair of Rockport sandals in Vegas in 2004 and they were so comfy, I bought the same style in another colour in Orlando!! I might even get another pair in Anaheim...lol.

Ella,
I have a pair of Merrell sandals I bought for our trip to Orlando last year. I wore them all day around the parks and they were great, no tired feet at the end of the day (well not as tired as wearing trainers)

I dont mind being the odd one out anyway lol :)

You won't be the odd one out. This is California. We love everything casual and love everyone's diversity. Heck, it's why I love it here! That, and being close to DL :thumbsup2

Of course you could alway go with the Miami look of shorts with dark socks & sandals. It's even better with that little garter thing. :rotfl2:

Actually you should wear whatever is comfortable to walk in. I've seen girls in spike heels, platform shoes or what looked like bedroom slippers. Your only concern should be comfort. The only no-no is barefoot (no safe or sanitary). You'll want to take into account the season. Nobody wants wet feet in winter or sunburned ones in summer.

One other thing to consider is head-gear. Whether a sun-visor on a hot day or a poncho when there's rain, you'll probably want to have something packed for you noggin.

Out of place? We are talking about Southern California, aren't we? I saw a girl in the elevator the other day that was dressed and had hair just like Edward Scissorhands. I would not be concerned about looking out of place wearing sandals. It was 59 degrees this morning and I saw a woman wearing shorts. It is very casual here.

I live in Utah and the kids wear shorts here all year round!!

I always wear my flip flops in the parks and yes I have that weird pattern on my feet all year round!

I always get 3 strap lines across my feet in the summer, ratjher have that than white line just under my ankle from wearing trainers!!!!...lol.
I just remembered, you don't call them trainers over there do you? it's sneakers I think. When i was saying, the first time we visited, that we wanted to get some trainers, my friend (Anaheim resident) couldn't understand why we would want to buy potty training pants!!...lol.

Lol - I thought trainers meant sandals :)

Some call them sneakers and some, like me, call them tennis shoes.

Don't wear a new pair of shoes that you haven't broken in yet! Ummm, like I'LL be doing... Upon advice from some Disney experts, I bought some Teva-type sandals (with straps around the back of the ankle) rather than wearing flip-flops that might fall off on entering/exiting an attraction. So I'm trying to wear those when the weather isn't too chilly (I still can't bring myself to do the sandals with socks thing.) But now my reliable (read as "old") Ryka tennies are wearing out, with barely a tread, a hole wearing in the back of the inside of the heel, and laces ready to break. So I went out and bought a new pair of Rykas...that I need to break in within 3 weeks!!! DOH!

Do you wear mostly sandals at DL? Should I even bother with the tennis shoes? I wear mostly tennies until summer, then wear Birkenstock-looking thong-type sandals or flip-flops.

Definitely bother with the tennis shoes. There are three types of people. Sandal people and low heel shoe people and high heel shoe people. If you are used to any of these, I suggest you wear the same shoes to the park. You will be walking and standing on hard asphalt all day long. I personally can't tolerate the rubber shower shoes. The sandals with the cloth straps are much better but still hurt between my toes after a while. My kids on the otherhand live in them. I have stopped wearing heels and now use loafers so tennis shoes tend to be a little tight on my feet and by the end of the day the sides of my feet hurt. If you wear heels all the time, if you switch to flats you end up with a charlie horse. So stick to the kind of shoe you are used to and most comfortable with and don't worry about the "fashion" of it. It is about surviving the park, especially if you are going for multiple days. I would bring extra shoes just because feet can be particular sometimes. I have even considered wearing my uggs to the park. lol. Don't worry. That hasn't happened yet.

We've always switched shoes (even as kids)j. During the day I usually wear my Teva's or some other comfortable sandals. After dinner I put on my tennis shoes. I usually have my kids changet their shoes too. I think it just gives your tootsies a little rest.
Also after last year when my son was hit & run by this incredibly rude woman with a stroller (running over his feet too) I always make sure my kids have sneakers on at night.

Last year my daytime shoes were Crocs and they were very comfortable. Bright yellow and very hard to miss lol. I was shocked at how good my feet felt at the end of the day.
I now wear them around the house instead of slippers.

We always wear sneakers, I perfer to have on something that wont fall off when we get in and out of the rides!

I've read so many posts about Crocs. I saw some 'reasonable facsimiles' at the local dept. store and tried them on. They felt like walking on marshmallows, not an unpleasant feeling by any means. But had to take them off once I looked in the mirror. :lmao:

I will take your advice and bring the tennies and sandals. Thanks!
