Anyone done the sand ceremony?? How are you suppsoed to get the containor home after the wedding?? the vases i've looked at done have any type of lid or top to keep the sand in. :confused3

DF and I are doing the sand ceremony as well. I found a clear vase that was shaped like mickey and ordered it off ebay. The packaging it came in held it very tight in the box, so that is all we are going to do, and hope for the best. Ours has no lid either, but hopefully we can pack it tight into the box, and put plastic over the top to keep it from spilling.. best of luck..

you're just driving to WDW right, I have to fly. Plus be on the cruise.

A mickey vase??? Hmmmm got a picture of that??

My WC packed mine really tight with tissue paper and placed it back in the box I gave it to her in. The sand didn't budge. It held the pattern that we poured it in perfectly ! I did pack it in my carryon, but it was fine.

I know this may sound silly, but I thought that I would throw it out there...

What about press n' seal wrap? It's strong and seals *really* well to glass and I'm sure if packed securely in the vase box so that nothing punctures it it ought to hold. Just an idea!:thumbsup2

We are driving to WDW, but we are also going on a cruise., Just gonna leave it in our car.. so we don't have to worry about it. Def. keep it in your carry ons!
Heres the pic of the Mickey Vase..

our vase came with a foam piece to put in the top to seal the hole- it also has a glass top for display. I would post a picture but it is sealed and ready for travel

We brought a wax melter thingy, the kind you put a tealight underneath and the wax chunk on top. We poured melted wax on top of the sand. it worked pretty well.

It's acctually quite genius! I use that stuff for everything! I'm definitely using that idea, thanks!

I am not a disbride, however, i had a Disneymoon in 1994 at the POFQ and was engaged while scuba diving in Ft. Lauderdale in 1993, a little trip we took while in DW

My question is, what is a sand ceremony?

I am going on the Magic 10/09 and was thinking of a VR for my 15 anniv, however, I am not sure.

Thats a great idea, with the melted wax. Do you think it would work fine if I just brought a tealight and used that wax?

We've done the tealight thing before and there was a bit of soot in the wax. It had a bit of a blackish/dirty tinge to it so we used the melter to prevent that from happening. If you're not planning on using white wax I imagine the soot would be less of a problem.

I'm not a disbride either but a lurker. We got married in Jamaica.

A sand ceremony replaces the traditional unity candle (which can be difficult to keep lit on a beach or at an outdoor ceremony.) The bride and groom each have their own vase of sand (different colors) and they pour the sand into a common vase in the middle. It's supposed to symbolize how 2 separate lives are melding together and like the grains of sand, their lives cannot be separated from that point forward.
