Sanaa question

My mom really wants us to go to Sanaa when we go to WDW for my sister's wedding next year. She's very excited about it, but looking at the menu I'm concerned. I DO.NOT. like curry. At all. I've tried it many times in different incarnations and in different places and I just can't do it. I guess I'm just not a fan of Indian food in general. Oh, and I don't eat/drink chocolate or anything else with caffeine in it, so that limits my desserts, even. Soooo....with that in mind, am I going to be able to find anything I'd eat at Sanaa? I know my mom is wanting us to experience new things, but we'll be on the dining plan so the kids will have to order from the kid's menu (which is pretty much exactly the same as everywhere else) and if the kids are eating pizza and I'm struggling to find something to eat, it's not broadening our experiences at all! (for what it's worth, I'm really not that picky of an eater - curry and sweet potatoes are about the only thing I *won't* eat).

Disney restaurants are very good at "working" with you...I say go to Sanaa & let your mom have her special meal. You don't all have to try the "new" food for it to be a great meal...we take our grown kids & their S.O or friends with us to Disney restaurants several times a year. There's always someone in the party who can't or won't be able to eat the more exotic foods. Not a problem. There's always a work-around at Disney (IT"S MAGIC, LOL) And Animal Kingdom Lodge is a glorious resort to visit (allow time to wander around a bit in the main lodge after your meal...it's spectacular. And go out on the big verandah at the main lodge to see the animals on the savanannah. Your family will enjoy it. Even the gift shop is fun at Animal Kingdom Lodge.)

As for Sanaa's menu: There's a nice steak on the menu...just request it cooked simply, with no curry or other hot spiciness (and specify no sauce or veggies served on it.) Explain nicely to your server you cannot eat curry or other hot/spicy seasonings...they are completely used to people with allergies/health issues/special diets and can always suggest alternative sides on the plate that you may enjoy (instead of the spicy stuff it comes with.) The other thing you can do is see if they can adapt one of the kids meals to an adult meal (there are other items besides just pizza on the kids meal there...on the official Disney website, under Sanaa, you can see the actual menus...and there's chicken breast, plainer vegetables, etc. also on the kids menu) Could be they could make an adult-sized meal for you with the kids ingredients.

As for dessert, virtually every Disney restaurant has some sort of ice cream, so that is always an option when you don't care for the usual offerings. And some restaurants are able to give you a dish of fresh fruit instead (again, ask nicely and see what they may offer.)

I've had some things there with no curry seasoning that I thought were delicious. Namely, the Indian bread service, the potato and pea samosas and the tandoori lamb. Their New York strip and the African spiced chicken breast aren't seasoned with curry spices either.

Saana should have very good sorbet. AKL has some of the best sorbet's I've ever had and they change the flavors. I had a watermelon sorbet at Jiko and it was the best sorbet I've ever had. I didn't want that bowl to end.

Definately tell them you don't like spicy or curry flavors and I'm sure they can work their Disney magic for you.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

Well, my parents will likely be there before we are - they're taking two weeks and driving and we'll be flying down for a week. If DH and I decide not to try Sanaa, mom can still go before we get there.

The sorbet does sound good.

Have you ever had tandoor chicken?

I have, and I really didn't care for it.

I should have mentioned that DH isn't really sold on doing table service at all and I know if I talk him into it and then make a big production of asking for a bunch of changes, he'll be upset. Plus - I'm afraid I'll feel like I wasted a ts credit on a bland meal when there are so many other places I'd like to try!

Ask them to prepare you something plain, maybe some chicken, steak or fish. Or just let your parents go to Sanaa since they really want to try it and you and your husband go and eat somewhere else.

I have eaten here twice - once for dinner (don't go when it is dark because you can't see the animals) and just this past Saturday for lunch. I do not like spicy food - I was brought up on meat & potatoes. The wait staff is awesome - they went over the menu very well and asked questions as to your likes and dislikes as to spice levels. My DD & I went in knowing that we would most likely get the turkey sandwich and the burger. Since the waitress knew I didn't really like anything too spicy she said she would put the burger in with the request to have the sauce on the side. Everything we had was wonderful - the view is wonderful (ask for a table by the window) - if you go for lunch it opens at 11:30. We were there very early and spent a lot of time outside watching the animals. Sanaa is a wonderful, relaxing place to eat - it was our last meal on property as we flew home Saturday night and it was an awesome way to leave Disney.
