Sanaa menu change

I agree that the $11 to upgrade is ridiculous but i don't think that $26 is all that much given that you are getting two complex and long cooked dishes. If I were to order 2 dishes (a meat and a veg) and rice to split at an indian restaurant it would be about $40-45 the last time I ordered like that (I prefer buffets because they are better deals)... so $52 for the disney jack up isn't that much (2x dinners as a typical entree in an indian place is about 2x what you get in half of your meal at Sanaa). Also if two people order you can have 4 different things as well.

Paneer is a house-made ingredient and then to have to sear it off and simmer in a beautiful curry... it's not like you're getting a side of stir fried frozen veggies for you "vegetable" side... paneer is an entree in its own right. I honestly didn't mind the change at all but I guess if you are used to getting a double butter chicken and splitting it it is a decent value at $13 a person, less so at $18.50 a person (not that i think anything at all is wrong with splitting, but if lots of people are doing it Disney is losing revenue and is going to try to correct that).
It's definitely not about the cost, it's about how much food is being wasted once you add in the full bread service. Splitting was basically a "normal" portion, actually a little too much, once you factor in a bowl of rice too. Another reason that the dining plan doesn't work for us, it's entirely too much food.

well if you don't care about the cost then nothing really has changed... but I do agree that $11 is steep for an upcharge. That said $15 for the bread service is a steal and 20% off for APs right now (or 10% off for DVC and Disney Visa)... it's still not a bad place to eat. Disney is expensive and it ticks me off too when it gets more expensive... but Sanaa is still on the whole one of the better bargains.

I went for the first time 2 weeks ago and am a HUGE fan now. it was super delicious and our server was great. Our bill was not bad even with two cocktails on it. I never went the "old way" but did not feel at all like I was missing out the new way.

I can only speak for myself, but even when we've split the bread service I can finish off the potjie with no problem (and my wife normally does as well.) I remember back when it was $20-21 (maybe 3 years ago) and I thought it was perfect in relation to price and quantity. I do agree with you that these are definitely more well prepared dishes then your average table service meal, but I also think you're getting about 1/2 the portion of each meat then you normally would if you could order if as a full-size entree. As someone who always got butter chicken and short ribs, it's disappointing that now I'd have to pay so much extra to receive both.

That being said I've had the paneer tikka before when it was stand alone appetizer so I know it's excellent and probably what I would get, it's just more to the point that Disney is making what I feel is a pure cash grab (but these days what isn't with them?), almost to the point of insulting it's customers by seeing if we're willing to spend so much extra for something that was always standard.

How does this change affect guests using the dining plan? We will be there in 2 weeks and I just want to be be able to plan accordingly!

If you are on the DDP they SHOULD let you get the two meats because $37 total is within the limits of what they could charge for a single entree. but I am just guessing and not sure if anyone knows for sure.

yeah I managed to eat the whole thing after sharing the bread service with my kid (and having to wrestle it away from him) but it was also 6 hours after a very light lunch and hitting the MK super hard. Had no room for dessert though! And yes it is a cash grab, reason #1737

We just got back from a trip with the DDP and my partner was told he got TWO meat dishes and one veggie dish under the dining plan. Which was too much food.

Either the server was mistaken or that's what you get under the dining plan.

interesting, a DIS friend who was also there around the same time we were (a week before maybe) said her daughter was offered 3 choices as well.

@BDFmom were you on the DDP?

My guess now is this:

If you want two meats, it is not a substitution for $11, it is an additional meat added on (3 total) for $11. Which does kind of make a bit more sense pricewise. Under the DDP they probably automatically go up to the default most expensive option... because DDP! which would include the optional add on 2nd meat.
