Any thoughts about staying at the airport hotel one night prior to our Jan 20 cruise? The reviews seem mixed.

We arrive early evening on the 19th and I wanted to stay away from Old San Juan because of the festival traffic. Do you think there will be any problem getting a cab to the Pan Am port that morning, and how will the traffic be?

We went on that cruise this year. People we cruised with had bad reviews of the airport hotel. We did not stay there but we were not happy with our hotel either. It was after the hurricane and many hotels were still closed. Taxis were plentiful. The one that took us from the airport to our hotel gave us a business card. We called him the next day to take us to port. We had no trouble getting to port.

We stayed at Sheraton Old San Juan last year during Festival prior to cruise. Our taxi was able to navigate the traffic easily to get us there, but there was plenty of it. There was noise at night from crowds leaving festival but no traffic in AM and plenty of taxis. Ride to port was easy breezy.

I also heard of problems with airport hotel last year, but also several others - mostly due to hurricane issues and cleanup efforts. Do you have other options you are looking into? I would check for more recent reviews of the hotels to get a better picture.

We are sailing the Wonder the same week this year as well! We relocated to the Sheraton Resort and Casino closest to the port. If you are concerned about the limited availability at some hotels, you may find some Cancellations in the next week or so if you keep an eye out. It seems like the reviews of the Airport Hotel are for the “We had to find a place to sleep” crowd - if you want more amenities, I would try to find different accommodations.
