I'll be in San Fran next week on business. Hopefully, I'll have time to explore the area. Anyone have any tips on what to see and do? Thanx for your help.

Yes, I'm frightened..............how'z this for short???

Walk everywhere! There's something to see at every corner.

Be prepared for some very creative and aggressive pan-handlers.

We spent a day just wandering around, and then had the most fantastic dinner at a place in Chinatown. I'm almost certain it was called Jade Empress... It was on the top floor of a building, and had a lovely view. Far and away the best chinese food I've ever had, anyplace.

Alcatraz was a great time too... And check with the hotel folks to see if there are any local color events going on. It happened that when we were there a Chinese New Year parade was going on and it was great.

Ride a cable car
Golden Gate Park
Pier 39 / Fisherman's Wharf
Lombard Street
Cliff House
Grace Cathedral

I love San Francisco..it is a really cool place to just hang out.

Alcatraz, Pier 39, cable cars, The museums, Chinatown, The Golden Gate Bridge, Blue and Gold tours, Ghiradelli Square, The Haight, Union Square, any and every restaurant you can wander into.. there is an Irish pub by the very beginning of the Cable Cars.. I can not remember the name.. it shall come to me. It has the BEST IRISH COFFEE!! Napa, Sausalito,Angel Island... whew! have I worn you out yet!! Bring your walking shoes.. or take a tour.. It is all fun.. It is all beautiful.. oh ya .. BRING YOUR WALLET! LOL!!

Have a bowl of clam chowder on Fishermans Wharf.. or have some Fresh Crab.. visit the sea lions who gather at Fishermans Wharf. WEAR A BIG SWEATER.. it gets really chilly! Come on down to visit some stuff in the South Bay or *****ula region.. Stanford!! Silicon Valley.. the Tech Museum.. is wild!! San Jose.. the Amusement Parks like Great America in SJ or Six Flags in Vallejo are not open as of yet.. HOWEVER the BOARDWALK in SANTA CRUZ is OPEN on the wkds.. it is older and it is FUNKY but alot of fun..
any further South.. you will Hit Gilroy.. home of the Garlic Festival in July!! Huge, fun and SMELLY!! Hope this gave you a few ideas.. Have a great vacation!!

Haight Ashbury has this great Ka-Bob place, best food value we found and great food.

The conceirge at our hotel recommended a place in Chinatown.. it was the Nanking, the owners tend to order for you, very cheap and the best chinese food I've ever had.

If you have a whole free day and enjoy nature, drive across the Golden Gate to Muir Woods, very impressive.

Or just hang out at Pier 39 and watch the Sea Lions for awhile. Look out for the guy that cruises the wharf area with a tree branch, he ducks down and hides behind it, and jumps out to scare people (he does it for tips) - I was a bit surprised at the numbers of homeless/those asking for handouts in the wharf area....

Have a great time!

How about a dim sum lunch in China Town. Green Tea in the Japanese Gardens. Rent a bike and pedal around Golden Gate Park.

Thanks for all of the tips! I certainly hope business doesn't get in the way of all the fun stuff!
